That’s crazy. The place I was talking about doesn’t have the highest winds in Oregon, it’s that it’s a half hour or so drive from the city and is the wind I get at my house. It just slows before it gets to me as it funnels out of the Columbia River Gorge. It’s also a weird phenomenon where the wind can last for weeks at a time. Some years we don’t get it all.

The Columbus Day Storn in the 60’s was our highest but the anemometer broke at 145- it was estimated to be 175 mph. We regularly get 120+ on the coast headlands every year.
That's def a bad toupee day.

On January 15-16 of 2000 there was a windstorm thru Eugene and the surrounding areas that was very very bad. I lived in Junction City, Oregon at the time and we were without power for a week. Getting home from work was a nightmare. Complete whole trees were across most roads and trying to drive home meant turning around and trying to come in from different directions. Thankfully, I had a 4x4 pickup and was able to off road a bit around trees and get home. Lots of generator noises in my neighborhood. Gusts in the area were around 80-100 mph with steady winds of close to 70-75 mph.

New rear control arms. At 230k the factory ones finally needed replacement. All new hardware goes in tomorrow. New shocks arrive Wednesday and install Friday.

I replaced mine at 150k just as maintenance and when I pulled the old ones I swear the bushings were like new. I decided the time was right to paint the new ones red and also I absolutely needed to replace the lower ones with Spohn boxed ones which happened to come already red. ;)

New shoes just in time for winter

They totally redesigned the tread on these. They're a hell of a lot quieter on the freeway. Will need to see how they do in snow to make a final decision

Also changed oil. Pulled a sample to send off to Blackstone. See how things look and put my money where my mouth is on my insistence regarding using 0w40. Or make a fool of myself and get a hard time from y'all. I'm good either way

Been going crazy the last few years making my tahoe like new again.
Finally knocked out the driver side rocker. What a PITA. I used a rocker I had cut out of some guys suburban he was parting out.
Next is the passenger side but that one isn't bad at all just a couple holes, might only take a couple hours, gonna use part of a slip on rocker.
Not perfect but it is going to last!

Next on the list is new front and rear bumpers, all black, 2500hd conversion up front, and S&B body mounts.
Also replacing the pitman arm, the last piece I replaced basically everything else in the steering and suspension.
I tightened up my gear box, what a difference that made, but I think I can tighten it a little more. How tight should my steering be? There is a tad bit of play but not sure what is the normal amount.
I need a good alignment it is definitely not dialed in, still a little camber on driver wheel, but after all that is done I am finishing up with 18" silverado takeoffs and probably some mich defenders 275/65r18

What a journey this has been

Nokian WRG4

The ones I had previously were the WRG3 SUV. They had a directional V tread on them with a 50k mile tread life. I got 40k on them before I opted to replace them at 4/32, so, fair enough. New ones have an inside-outside omnidirectional pattern with a 60k tread life.

New pattern seems to hold up better under hard cornering too. Tread design feels less squirmy.

The old ones slapped in wet / snow. It would take an absurd amount of water at freeway speed to get me to hydroplane. Like, >1" of standing water on the freeway. In the snow? If I kicked in 4wd auto, I could plant my foot to the floor and not get any wheel spin. Only time I'd wish I had more traction was on black ice after the air temp got above freezing and it has the water layer above it. But that's studded tire territory, and I didn't encounter that often enough to outweigh the downsides of running those.

Nothing notable to say about winter performance as of yet. Had some wet weather, but nothing really 'trying.'

With Thanksgiving tomorrow I would like to add this to my list of things to be thankful for not having to deal with.;). In addition to your previous post, I am afraid to send my oil to Blackstone........Although I probably should since i turned 200k a couple months ago.........
