Longtime reader hoping to get some help, I have a '09 Tahoe 5.3l LT2 package. Recently on a long road trip I noticed a very annoying rattle sound coming roughly from the passenger dash area. The rattle is only present at highway speeds 65+, thus I thought it was wind related but everything on outer is nice and tight (sideview, wipers, window seams, panels, etc.). These sounds drive me crazy, hoping someone had similar before I start taking door and dash apart. Many thanks in advance.

Check all the bolts in the engine area. I had a similar issue that sounded like it was coming from the dash but it was actually a loose bolt on the cross bar support near the battery. Also check all the battery bolts.

Yes on the cracked bouncing dash. Put slight pressure on the dash to hold it down to see if it stops. The OnStar module is located directly under the radio. It has a little compartment it lives in. Sometimes if it’s lost it’s insulation it’s metal on ABS plastic in there.

The trim piece that runs under the p/s dash cap simply pulls straight out with the a/c vent. You can check out YouTube to see an example of how easily it’s removed. Once out, take er for a spin and have the passenger check things out.
