I had this issue as well shortly after buying my Tahoe, replacing the dash switch panel fixed it immediately. Definitely the best place to start.

I bought mine from the factory that makes them in China, took about a week to arrive. There's no difference between mine and the Vetronix one would buy stateside save for the price. I think even OTC made them at one time too. GM doesn't use the Tech2 anymore for its new vehicles, they switched over to the MDI and laptop in 2014. This is probably why we can get them now for so much less, they're obsolete in a sense but we can still hook them up to TIS2WEB to reprogram if need be.

if yours isn't a Vertronix, whose name is on it then? I wasn't aware there are multiple manufacturers.

Mine is a Vetronix. Even the PC Board inside says so. I did notice a difference between various releases and manuals over the years. Under Tool Options, some units show 8 functions and others 10. Some show different options within those amounts. Mine does not have the Make Duplicate PCMCIA Card or Set Training Center Mode but does have CANdi Diagnostics which the 8 function tools do not. Am trying to determine if those features can be added through a firmware update. Not a big deal though if I cannot.

I misread this comment.

Was your last statement distinguishing between the original & the aftermarket? Or differences between various aftermarket producers? How many are there other than V that you are aware of?

Post #16 was speaking of differences within the Vetronix brand. AFAIK, Bosch, OTC and Vetronix were the only ones to manufacture the Tech2. I believe that each company had the licensing to produce them at differing times. My oldest Vetronix manual is from 2005. I have done no research on the subject.

Regardless, I'm thankful to have it, wish we had it twelve years ago when we bought our Pontiac.

I got the "Service 4WD" message this morning for the first time.

20220926_073847.jpg

Was in 2Hi. Indicator light on the switch was on when I left the house.

After I made a stop, I saw the "Service 4WD" message on the DIC. First time that came up.

It is still driving in 2Hi, just fine.

No indicator lights on the switch and nothing happens pushing buttons.

I won't be able to get the Tech 2 out until Thursday or Friday, but I'll see what I can find out and whether the switch is doing anything.

Probably the switch.

I have no codes for brakes, ABS or anything else.

I'll Let you know if I find anything.
