Hello all, I have a few questions so I figured I'd ask all in one shot.

My first issue is the rough idle. The truck feels like it has an irregular heartbeat at idle if you can relate to that. It doesn't happen frequently enough that the tach shoes it bit it feels like an intermittent misfire.

Is there anything I can do to fix this? I was considering using motor medic and flushing the engine. Would this help or hurt?

Issue 2 is the lifter failure problem. I don't have it yet but I want to be proactive. If I use a tuner or programmer to disable the 4/8 cylinder mode will it be detectable if something were to happen. The vehicle does have a warranty through a 3rd party provider and I don't want to take any chances in voiding that. I think that anything mechanical is out of the question but the computer programming is reversible. I just don't want to leave a fingerprint in the computer that they could try to use against me even though it may have nothing to do with the hypothetical failure.

If there is a decent tuner or programmer that can shut this off, which brand/model do you recommend?

Will do thank you for the advice. Is there any particular brand of cleaner that works better in these engines or does it even matter?

I buy the walmart brand it used to be .99 cents a bottle but is now like 1.20 or something I usually buy a dozen (just take the open case box off the shelf and stick it in the garage and use every 3 months or so just as maintenance "super-tech fuel injector cleaner" watch when you grab it because the fuel treatment bottle looks identical but that's not what you need.

@BlackBearPerf can help you out on the tune and v4 mode shut off, trans shifting, etc
For the rough idle try 2 bottles of injector cleaner in a full tank of gas for a few tank fulls and/or have a injector service done, clean the throttle body, the maf, new air filter.
that should clear it up in short order.
Awesome! @ptm82379 We would be happy to help with a tune. Give us a call 877-809-4070. Thanks!

Just an update on this, I was able to resolve the issue. I tried 2 cans of injector cleaner to 1 tank of gas, the valve cleaning solution you spray into the intake manifold, tb cleaner, neither worked. It progressively got worse and worse over time. It was really bad and would shudder the entire vehicle. I eventually got a check engine light and didn't read the code but my chevrolet app made it sound like a reminder to have the emissions system serviced.

I took a look at the airbox and there was a broken tab and a screw missing. There may have been a small gap between the lid and the filter but not much. I decided to pull the box, clean it, put a new filter in, make sure it was screwed in good and clean the maf sensor.

Idles smooth several days later now.
