So, I just started having issues with the multifunction switch in my Yukon. Specifically, the wipers sometimes stick on. The problem appears to be within the switch assy, and I know how to change it, etc. - that's not my reason for posting.

My Yukon is a 2002 and the switch for the high/low is what I'll call a "toggle style" - with every pull of the handle, it toggles between high and low. I also have a 2006 Sierra and it functions differently. On it, I push for high beams, and pull for low. If I pull back from low, it also has a momentary function to flash the high beams. This is similar to some of our other vehicles, so the Yukon is the "odd man out" so to speak. As a result, since I probably need to change the switch anyway, I'm wondering if I can do an "upgrade" at the same time?

What I really need to know is if the 2003-2006 multifunction switch is a direct replacement electrically & physically. From what I've seen online, the mounting looks the same. I know the hazards button on top is a little different, so I'd need to switch the top cover plastic to match, but that's not a big deal. I've searched and searched on this forum and around the internet and haven't found this mod even mentioned. I'm hoping someone on here knows whether this is a direct swap or not.

Thanks,

Danny

I am not able to give you a definitive answer -- perhaps someone else who can will chime in, but the electronics changed between 2002. This makes it unlikely a 2003+ style would interchange with your 2002. You might look at Rock auto to see if the part numbers are the same, or buy a cheap knockoff and see if it will work.

Exactly what I was gonna say. Go to RA and see what numbers are listed for 2002 and compare to 2003+. I would bet the swap is not possible unless there is also a way to really get crazy and swap out a steering column.

I was able to compare two at the auto parts store, and it's what I figured - not a direct swap. The mounting appears to be the same, but the wiring is completely different. On the one for an 02, it has a decent-sized harness attached to the switch. On the 03, it's just plugs on the back of the unit for the harness to plug into.

As an aside, I'll note that changing the one on an 02 is a PITA due to the harness being attached to the switch. The harness routes down into the dash, and also goes to two other sensors on the steering column...
