Oil Pressure Issue - Resolved

I wanted to post this as it may be of help to others. A little background -

I did a timing chain, sprockets, tensioner, oil pump and pick-up tube o-ring replacement on my 07 Tahoe which all started with trying to get the cam sensor out (long story chronicled in another thread). Anyway, got her all back together started right up. I let it idle for around 5 minutes. The oil pressure was around 40. Took it for a short spin and after being at operating temp (210) for about 1-2 miles the oil pressure started falling like a rock. As you can imagine after all the work - a bit of a kick in the ****! Got it back home in a hurry.

After a ton of reading and thinking about various reasons why this could be going on, I had seen a post from an 07 Avalanche owner that he had oil pressure issues which ended up being a problem with the oil filter which was resolved with an ACDelco filter. When I changed the oil during the process I put on the same brand of filter I have used for years on this engine - Puralator One. Thinking, I'll start with the easiest solutions first, I ordered an ACDelco Gold filter from Amazon and took the new Puralator off and installed the ACDelco Gold.

Problem resolved - I have driven about 100 miles with the new filter and the oil pressure is constant 35 at warm idle and 48-50 at 2,000 RPM (70 MPH).

I don't know if Puralotor changed something or what but I was elated it wasn't something more major all things considered.

I had this issue on a 2012 Sierra. Same work and used a PH63 I think which is the longer one I have used many times. Low oil pressure. Changed to 10w30 and the shorter one and got an additional 10 psi. Seems to me that this is a band aid on a bigger issue. I was hesitant to buy my latest 2008 Yukon but it had good oil pressure already. Guess I'm a glutton for punishment.

@dustin, I used the standard pressure Melling M295. I was leery of using the high-output because the engine has 306k on it and already has a slight rear main leak. I thought it make make it worse.
@Plimbob I’m with you, I also recently installed a standard melling oil pump

I just did the same due to camshaft sensor breaking while trying to remove. My rear seal is leaking but I went with high volume Melling pump and so far all is good. Running K&N filter which may be holding it at 40 psi but happy. Dropping that front differential in the carport was a b***h.

@ffiltar I agree man the most difficult part of my AFM delete was the front diff

Did y'all actually drop it all the way out?
Yes, on the carport, using floor jack- then used same jack to muscle it back, using zip ties to not loose progress - not my most proud moment
