Nice. I've always wanted one of those. Stock? Gonna do anything to it? Still have the Tahoe?
It has a cold air intake but appears mostly stock. I still have the Tahoe, I will take that ride to the grave with me. The G8 is gonna stay stock for a while, BUT..... I still have the original 6.2 from the Tahoe that would plop right in place of the 6.0, hahaha

In the Denali I replaced cabin air filter, headlight bulbs - high and low and replaced the hvac fan resistor now the fan has more than 2 speeds!
The Tahoe had a rock come out of nowhere and chipped the windshield, safelite came out and sealed the chip.

Driving over to the next town for a haircut, when a older BMW passed me going the other way. It was kind of loud and I began to smell hot antifreeze just as it went by. Thought nothing more of it and drove another 3/4 mile to the barber shop.

Just as I pulled into the barber shop, clouds of white steam were billowing out from the passenger side of my hood! WTF?!!!

I popped the hood and found coolant all over the passenger side. I panicked a bit at first. Fearing the worst... Blown head or blown head gasket? Radiator? Something tragic.

White as a ghost, I decided to go in to get my haircut anyway (it had been 6 weeks since last cut) and look at if after it cools down a little. When I came back out, the engine seemed most wet up high and towards the back. I started the engine to see if was gushing or spraying out; and from where.

I don't think I could have been so happy to see coolant spewing out at the heater hose! Not the head or anything tragic with the engine or cooling system...

The hose looked like it was attached, but coolant was gushing out at the joint. Turned out that the connector snapped right off where the hose attached.

Thank GOD! I knew right way it was the heater hose connector, which would be a cheap, relatively easy and fairly quick fix.

Had my son come over with screwdriver, hammer, pliers and what was left of the coolant I had in the basement. He brought me to NAPA to get this (I know GM original is best, but in a pinch...) https://www.napaonline.com/en/p/NOE82002551?ref=Mg==

I bought the metal X-shaped tool for quick releases, but that turned out to be useless. It was too tight in the back and could not get that tool where it needed to be. The tool also did not slide in deep enough to release the tabs on the connector anyway.

I busted the old connector off with needle nose pliers on the small connection to the rear heater and a screwdriver/hammer to bust the plastic on the big connection at the heater core. Trying to be gentle but use enough force to snap the plastic connectors seemed to take the longest. The new part snapped on quick and fit perfect. I did it all in the parking lot of the barber shop and was back in business.

Stopped at the store for some nice rib-eyes to celebrate a relatively easy fix!

P.S.: Be sure to put a towel or something over the hood latch when crawling in the engine bay... I went to dismount and my feet slipped off the bumper. I got my shorts snagged and caught the latch on the back of my leg (OK - my backside if truth be told).

For a second, I was hanging awkwardly like a scarecrow until my son gave the assist to lift off the hook! It was funny after, but not funny while I was stuck there. I learned the hard way! Protect yourself from the killer hood latch!!! LOL

Finally replaced the few crumbles of rust I had hanging off the back with a fresh bumper. Didn't realize the Tahoe and Silverado bumpers were different until i'd swapped the mounts over and slid it into the frame! No matter, actually improved departure angle a little.

Also tossed the factory hitch receiver and welded a receiver tube right onto the bumper. This will get reinforced quite a bit more with kickers running back to the frame rails on both sides, and safety chain points of course. Again, this is for improvement in departure angle.

This was all in preparation for the swing out spare tire carrier I'm building. I've got everything for that except some 1/4" steel plate that will sandwich above and below the bumper to mount the spindle. I'll also bend a piece of tube that will weld to the bottom piece and then kick back to the frame for further reinforcement.

I am debating back and forth between a passengers side mounted spare, or a center mounted spare. I had pretty well settled on side mounted until I saw it center mounted. I'm starting to think that may be better. I believe I could still mount a Jerry can on the hinge side (maybe two), and then also have space to build a small box to keep some recovery gear in. It would also have the benefit of lowering the spare to retain some more visibility out the back window, and potentially lower the center of gravity just a little bit. I had my buddy hold it in both positions, so give some input. In the center position it will still mount about 3" higher than shown in the picture. The side position will mount about 1" higher.

AC been terrible. My old ass gauge from my LS1 f-body didn't fit so ordered new ones. Went out to put them on and saw this from high side.


Got it vacuumed, swapped, and filled this am. Was still acting weird on auto but if I lowered the fan speed and hit recirculating it finally hit 38* out the vent.

Gonna use my nano/tech2 emulator and run through all the diagnostics. Should have done that as step one.

Also might fire parts cannon since control units are known to go bad. Wish they weren't discontinued. Dorman it is, I guess. Also got a buzzing from the respirator behind me, so that might be contributing.

And to make it even more fun - need to toss the e-fans on and program it.

Drove to the Lowes which means a few miles of freeway driving which I haven’t been doing lately. Found a nice Beemer that wanted to rally a bit on the way back. So here I was, boost on high, 10’ sections of gutter in the truck, Malamute with his head out the driver side rear window, kicking that cars ass and as I’m about to exit I slow down and as he comes alongside me he has a huge grin on his face, thumbs up as he rolls down his passenger window and passes me. Damn, I love The Beast. So much fun for what was just a run to get building supplies. :cool:
