300 lbs heavier? I was beginning to regret not getting 3.0 but now I am kind of glad I got the 5.3. But if I had to do it again still would consider the 3.0…..its a much closer toss up know the tow rating is less. I always thought diesel meant higher tow rating. I am always learning something new.

300 lbs is going to make a difference in your towing needs/usage?

Not this alone, but could be a factor. When I ordered my 5.3 there was the no start long start issue and I was not convinced on the belt being in oil. With the fuel prices being what they are now I would lean toward 3.0.

In my area the cheapest regular I can get is $4,79 right now. Diesel $5,69. That's almost 1$ per Gallon. Not worth it imho

But the diesel will get better mpg, usually more than making up for the price difference.

What belt is in oil? Not sure I understand that.

Oil pump drive belt. Also they recommend the belt be changed at 100,000 miles. Current cost to do is ~$1300.00. I mean its at 100k so not that big of deal. But the belt is partially submerged in oil and to change it the transmission has to be moved back from engine to access the belt.

Diesel in this SUV was meant for MPG's. I think the real issue is not the engine, as the same engine, w/ max tow in the pickups gets a 13000lb rating, I think it is related to Suspension, not powertrain.
