A/C problem

Problem is when driving and a/c is blasting cold air, suddenly the driver side puts out hot air while passenger side continues cold air.
If I come to a complete stop, turn off car, then immediately restart the car, the driver side begins blowing cold air again.
2004 Tahoe small V-8. 170,000 miles What is the cause.

Forgot to mention the controls are manual, not electronic.

That sounds like the driver's side temperature actuator is on the fritz. It is the one in the passenger footwell, near the transmission hump, under that black plastic cover. Not sure of the part number, it might be 15-72971/89018365.

Yup and luckily it is very easy to change out. An hour job tops.
