This is a 6.2 with nearly 250k miles and still runs pretty well but this one code could get the CEL off for me if I could figure it out. I’ve done a good amount of reading and it doesn’t seem like one particular part/parts is guaranteed to be a remedy here. If it were you, where would you start? Thanks in advance

P0011 or “Timing too advanced - bank 1”, I think it’s related to VVT but I’ve seen threads where people have replaced the oil pickup o-ring and the VVT specific stuff and I’m not sure what exactly is the fix here. I have normal-ish oil pressure for a tired 6.2, 40psi cold startup, 25-30 at 2k rpm cruising and about 15 hot idle.

Also, I’ve been running premium over regular under the assumption if the engine can’t retard timing like it wants to with lower octane, it’s probably going to knock. I probably shouldn’t drive it at all for now. Guess I’ll try the solenoid actuator and bolt that lives behind the water pump as a starting point

Same issue. It’s been intermittent but more pretty consistent. I replaced the actuator solenoid and it didn’t fix mine. I tried running premium and 87 (I’m in Colorado) and neither seems to change. Maybe a tired oil pump or stretched timing chain. Could be an oil pressure issue I suppose. I also have a front main seal leak. with a few more of those repairs I think might as well just rebuild the thing. if I can figure it out I’m sure it’s got another 20k or more in it. I’m at 245K.

15PSI is not enough the minimum PSI should be 25PSI hot

mine is at 50PSI hot idle and 60PSI while driving but I have a corvette HIGH Pressure variable oil pump


on a cold day it can reach 70psi

oil pick up tube most likely is bad this can be tested easily though by over filling the pan(see the thread before attempting though)
