No, I got my Denali back and so far it is working well.....

Coming to this party late (been working a lot) but I saw this question come up in a Winnebago group on FB. Those of us who tow have a whole other set of calculations at 10 mpg. But I've got a paid-for 2011 'Burb that's pretty much set up as I like it and with only a 7 mile one-way commute, I'm not yet spending the $450 or more per month at 1.9% that something new - assuming I could find something for $30,000 - would cost me. At least here in Chattanooga where gas is about $3.80 per gallon.

I am thinking strategy for longer travels with the trailer, however. While gas would have to get to $10 a gallon by June to make me reconsider our loop through Virginia, West Virginia, Ohio, and Kentucky, I would have had to reconsider our 5400-mile Texas/New Mexico sojourn back in January had gas gotten to $7 - $8.

Edit: all that said, there's no way I'd afford the new truck payment AND the gas today. I'd be looking for a cherry 1st generation Mazda Miata and get back into that game again for commuting.

We just got back from a 1700 mile road trip. Used roughly 80 gallons of fuel, and computer said average of 55 MPH for those 1700 miles. On the highway we were in the mid-70s.
By my math, that's a little above 20 mpg for our trip.

'22 Denali - 22" rims. It also has the air suspension. 2 adults, 1 kid, and a 60LB dog in the back.
As someone else said, it's like driving your living room down the road.

I believe you're going to see it sooner rather than later. The longer high gas prices persist the harder the shock will be. Everything will hum along fine until one day the floor drops out. Saw it happen Sept 2001 and Sept 2008.

Anyone remember what happened in 2008? I was GM truck shopping (pickup 1500 crew 4x4), same model truck price timeline: 05/07 - $31,500, 04/08 - $30,500, 09/08 - $25,000. Dealers couldn't give Suburbans, etc away and weren't even taking them as trade ins, for any price.

Gas prices aren't making me reconsider yet, but they're making me darn glad that I'm not in a position to buy right now, with ADMs and elevated transactions. I have the ability to wait it out for a bit and thankfully so - will see what happens.

@Wwes Back in 08 that pricing effect was more so due to the huge recession we had from the mortgage industry, more so than fuel prices. Hell, they were giving away denali leases for $300/mo around me at that time.

Until Inventory starts building back up on the lots, and sales slow down, prices are going to remain steady unless we have an economic collapse again....

Could be worse. Until recently I usually do not track fuel mileage but all the talk on this forum had me curious so I've been watching things on some of my rigs. I filled the tank on my '95 k1500 silverado about a month ago with 25 gallons of regular. I only made it a whopping 230 miles on that entire tank of gas. Lots of short trips

I'm actually glad we bought 2 new vehicles last year early before this chip and markup thing took off. Got both at or below sticker and fully loaded not missing any chips. This whole chip issue isn't easing anytime soon, and it would be hard to stomach paying 5-10K over sticker for a vehicle that was missing items I wanted or will be installed "Later". It will take only 1-2 more international "Issues" before supply chains are TOTALLY hamstrung and production of some essential items just comes to a halt....
