So... Like, what are the symptoms of a poor filter? I'm not looking for obvious failure -- I'm looking for the subtle stuff. I was justing thinking that even a subpar filter would be fine if you change your oil often enough.
Hundreds of videos on you tube alot of interesting stuff

You'll hear it small knock/clacking sound and your MPG will go down. Seems very common at 250K miles and higher. My 01 burban needed it at 325K miles cause the last moron owner was using Pennzoil "Diarrhea" conventional/Jiffy Lube service and was 12 months over due on a oil change. When I bought my burban in 2020 I flushed the old oil crap and started with Mobil 1 and then 1 lifter on pass side crapped out. flushed out again added some Hy-per lube and then Got some new LS7 lifters from Summit in Arlington and she was good as new again !!!:chewie:

FRAM Ultra Synthetic Provides Ultimate Dirt Trapping Efficiency and Dirt-Holding Capacity.

FRAM Ultra Synthetic helps get top performance from newer engines and maximum protection for older ones. The perfect filter choice for consumers looking to get the most from their investment in full synthetic oil.

So does "High Mileage" oil mean its for an engine with higher mileage on the odometer? Or does it just mean that the oil change interval is rated on more miles driven before the next oil change? (I always thought it was the former).

It's marketed for vehicles with "HIGH miles" and not for you to drive longer between oil changes. Honestly, it's just some extra additives for the seals not to leak motor oil all over. IMO its not worth the extra cost as any regular name brand blend/full synthetic is good enough for these rigs

Hell I have ran Chevron Delo 400XLE 10W30 diesel oil in my burban with no issues !!! Its great SN+ oil and @ $3 a gallon pretty much "Free" in my book :p:cool:

Yep

FWIW, these actually have a bit better filtration performance than the Amsoil units. The consequence being they will be more apt to plug up if you're doing extended intervals. Extended being like... 15k if you're one of those crazy fools

Ya 15K miles on a filter is plain stupid and asking to kill the motor with sludge. I do about (3) 3000-4000 mile OCI's and then replace with new

Some folks do it with lab tests

I'm not a believer though. Ive crawled under enough vehicles and had engines apart from people doing that stuff.... The paperwork says it's good. The engine disagrees

I've been known to change mine as soon as 1500 if I'm particularly rough on it.

Good synthetic oil is cheap. 4-5 bucks a quart? Meh, **** it.

I bought my 08 Denali at 100K and have used Mobil 1 high mileage and AC Delco filter every 5K miles, sitting at 241K miles currently. No engine issues so I guess you could say I'm happy with it and it's performance. No metal on drain screw or anything like that. Oil comes out just dirty oil nothing else.
