no news really, but went and had the truck measured for new wheels today to see how much we can stuff in there with the big ass Wilwood calipers.

Waiting on QA1 to ship the level 3 front suspension and then we can get it set up for install. I am going to replace the front fender wells, all steering components, and any bushings while its apart. I will probably swap out the original fuel tank as well while the bed is off. Not that anything is wrong with the current one, just aesthetically it looks old and janky under the truck. Will also have the frame cleaned up and freshened with new black while all the new suspension is going on. But I think that'll happen sometime in February. Wheels should be here in March/April.

Been still debating the transmission issue. A few days ago I was dead set on just swapping into a 700R4 and calling it a day. Now after leaving my buddies shop, I'm half tempted to swap into a 4L80/4L60 and just run the standalone computer. This way if I ever swap to an LS motor, the transmission part is already done.
Like I said, 4L80 all day long is your best bet. You won’t regret it. Why don’t you ever listen to me? This thing is smack dab in my wheel house, man!! :D

Ok ok ok… I’m working on pricing it out. 4L80e.

Still waiting on my front kit to come in and then we can start the suspension redo.

I also just ordered the QA1 front and rear sway bars. Didn’t know it wasn’t in the kit, so added them in.

Gotta order front fender wells from LMC since the front end will be apart anyhow. I want it all looking brand new.

Nice shopping list! :waytogo: I’d imagine she’ll be one of the cleanest 454ss trucks around after all is said and done.

thanks dude. im neglecting the rocket ship tho. I think she's gonna need exhaust soon. But we also might be trading her in this year. It goes in for the annual service the end of January so we will see what they can do.

Nooooooo 24s!
You dont have to get 24's to have that look. Get some 20's or 22's with that deep dish on the rear. Go to Youtube and watch the OBS videos and get some ideas.

US Mags makes 20 inch SS looking wheels that are cool looking for the guys that want to keep the SS stock looking.

the wheels we ordered are built to the truck. Largest lip I could run with the stock axle width, brake caliper clearance, and still sit flush with the bedside but tuckable. I believe the BS was 6.5”, give or take 1/4”. 22x10. We are shaving the back pad down as much as possible to make sure the lips are big without running into brake clearance.

US Mags was an option in the beginning, but I was just dead set on the Budniks from my youth. :)

Ok…. Now I’m on the quest for a 4L80e core. Seems like most transmission shops want the core and i only have the crappy turbo 400, so I gotta find one.

I did call Monster Transmission. Same story. Core or they charge $900 for one. They offer a complete swap package for $6800. I’m sure it’s nice, but I’d be at $10k for just a transmission installed with new driveline. Doesn’t make sense. If i source it locally it’ll be half that.

Heck for $15,500 i could just buy a brand new GM LS3 with 4L60. So it really doesn’t make sense to buy their setup.

And still waiting for QA1 to send the front suspension. Once that’s here it’ll go in the shop for the complete suspension swap out. I’ll have everything that’s rubber under the truck replaced while it’s tore apart.

Budnik estimates the new wheels will be here end of March. :(
