Actually, the Li-ion batteries are recyclable, although I think at this point it really isn't economic (not unlike recycling glass).

JB Straubel, a cofounder of Tesla, founded a company called Redwood Materials, aimed at making the battery recycling process a paying enterprise. I believe he is in the process of planning a big building in NV to do recycling and materials manufacturing for battery makers. If he has his way, he will be recycling battery materials at scale in the next few years.

Having said that, I suspect it will be a long time before recycled battery materials will be competitive with newly mined materials, although with a stroke of a pen, our masters in Washington can make it the primary input to new batteries.

EV batteries do get recycled. There is a lot of work underway to ramp up capacity and make they process more efficient.

here in Cali in the summer they just randomly shut off the power in certain "sectors" it's called a rolling blackout one sector goes out then after a few hours they turn it back on and turn off a different sector, that is now without any other extra "strain" on the power grid, they do that so the whole system won't go down.
Solar won't make enough power, wind wont make enough power. nuclear will.
a nuclear power plant takes about 5-6 years to build, currently there are none being built or planned to be built in California (as far as I know)
electric may be coming but it's not coming as fast as they want you the think.
They are placating the public as far I can see, they already know it takes a huge amount of "energy" to create a electric vehicle and the battery's etc, the "pay-off" is supposed to be in the reduced emissions, the question is how long do you have to drive a electric vehicle before it "zero's" out it's carbon footprint with "reduced emissions" it's kind of a b.s. card game.
also you can't make plastic without oil, nor tires, nor a lot of things. oil & gas isn't going to "go away"

This will not be possible. Solar and wind do not supply enough power to run a house on its own. Let alone windmills need thousands upon thousands of oil to run. It’s a joke. Ask Cali how they like their rolling blackouts

I think there is going to be a significant shortfall in power grid capability as EV sales ramp up and they are going to ramp up, I believe faster than most people think.

I also think the powers that be, who really want to force EV and everything they consider "green" along with it, understand that it doesn't matter that we will get to over consumption of "sustainable" electric power as a result of the grid stress we will all endure (just take a look at Germany today, if you want to know what is coming).

These "same powers that be" understand it always takes a "crisis" to give them the green light on doing whatever expensive thing they have been wanting to do for so long. You want a green light on the Trillions it will take to make our power grid totally "sustainable"? Turn the lights off for a time, the electorate will be screaming to pass that debt bomb.

lithium batteries can't be recycled they burst into flames when exposed to oxygen

DownCycled yes but to create new batteries no

NiMH and lead acid batteries can be 99% recycled..except for the acid.

most likely the battery inside your suv is recycled lead...

There do seem like there are alternatives to the batteries ending up in landfill, even today.

This guy had a novel way of dealing with his dead Tesla. Like so many before him, Elon just found out you don't mess with the Finn's...
