Heated/Cooled Seats to Work at Later Date

Crazy to think of paying as much for one of these as they are and not having heated seats. Can buy a far less expensive option like a Kia Telluride and get heated seats.

Yeah, but no... their markup is about 10K per vehicle if you can find one. This vehicle is hotter than a Tahoe/Yukon by far.... I've seen 20K markups on them.

I chose a bad example…pick anything with an MSRP lower. Explorer, Highlander, Sorento, CX5, etc.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but for Tahoe/Suburban (and I believe this would extend to Yukon too???), that only the heated steering wheel is getting deleted starting with production on Dec 6, not the heated seats. Doesn't matter when you ordered at the dealership, it'll be the TPW date that matters. That's how I'm interpreting the news from GM Authority anyway.

As nice as the heated Steering Wheel would be, the seats are nicer to have. And completely agree that cheaper cars (all makes/models) seem to have this at the bare minimum, so why not for GM too? It shouldn't be a feature - it should be standard.

I would read it that way……what they don’t specify is….”What is considered “Some Units”.
Obviously order or production after 12/06/21 are in danger but what others?

Southern climate dealer inventory? FL, Southern, Lower TX, AZ, NM etc…….

I would like to think that they put some thought in this…….Northern climates get it and southern Don’t? If I lived in upper Midwest, snow Balt states and came without the heated steering wheel I would have a aneurysm……..Even in North central TX I get my moneys worth from the heated seats and steering wheel….usually on the way home from work in the winter.

I can survive the loss of A/C seats in order to capture a Z71 specced out but HSW …… they want to help with the chip shortage then sacrifice some of the non critical items…..Sliding center console, switch 2nd row buckets to manual fold, stow and go, release etc……. The sliding console is really a joke and novelty. First of all the switch control for it is on the OH console and very dimly lit. Adding to that doesn’t specify which one of the about seven switches on the OH console is console. Process of elimination and a learning curve.

Dump the mirror puddle lamps, dealer installed accessories like illumination package, grille bow tie logo. Yes nice but priority should be on how vehicle rides, comfort, power, smoothness etc……

For the most part I prefer function over form…..by that I mean how a vehicle drives and handles isn’t more critical to me than a bunch of fancy lights and for the most part how it looks.

Looks like one step was solved with eliminating the power adjustment for the pedals….(gas/brake etc).

Do we really need a 45 way moonroof?…..I was embellishing but you get the idea.

The irony of removing the heated steering wheel was decided apparently some time in November…..Winter in North TX. If they had said it would be removed around August and price adjustment (credit) probably a lot of people would never know the difference or could accept the loss and get over it.

Talked to dealer and advises that some color combinations may not be available soon. Rumor has it January Midnight Blue is one of the color victims. I don’t have a specific time frame but if you really like that color like I do…..be prepped to accept the loss and come up with alternate colors.

Hopefully these things will work out sooner rather than later but you never know.

No heated steering wheel would have been a deal breaker for the wife. I thought it was a dumb option but now that it's winter my mind is changing. It's pretty nice actually

My dealer advised that they are making a retro fit kit for adding heated wheel later. Says no cost but I find that hard to believe. I am also sure that the credit they are applying for not having it is WAY below….make that WAY WAY below what it would cost to install at dealer…..

Example $100 credit but $800 to dealer install…

I agree nice to have especially in the winter……yes even North Texas winters get cold. During the dealer to home last night I was getting the moneys worth on heated seats and steering wheel!

Would it be worth canceling the order over?………your call. Biggest factor is finding out whether the dealer will charge for the installation and how much? Aside from the switch and power supply shouldn’t be much of a problem except the steering wheel outer diameter would have to either total replacement with a wheel that has the heating elements already installed or tear leather outer face of wheel.

I am also wondering if the reason for removing is a supplier constraint for the chip …..yes that’s obvious but what part? If it’s the part that controls the timer then send as normal and advise dealers/customers that the heated wheel will work but they might have to manually control off/on instead of it turning off after preset time…(10-15-20) minutes.
Pay attention to rear window defroster. Probably won’t be deleted since that is more of a safety item and has been standard on pretty much all vehicles since about late 90’s ish……..anyone remember when RW defroster was either a stand alone option or part of popular equipment packages?

If I had to take a guess I would say every wheel installed on all vehicles all have the heating element. The cost is nil and we don’t need to stock two different wheels. Completing the circuit is how you get the option. The real question is is it just a matter of adding a switch and connecting a few wires? Or is there a lot more to it than that. An intelligent dealership should be able to tell you easily.
Is it a dealbreaker to not get this on the vehicle out of the box?
well to me it would be, as it is a 5 to 6+ year investment, you don’t know the ramifications of getting it added or when that could be completed or at what cost. If you live in an area where this is something that you need/look forward to. I wouldn’t want to take a 80+k upper end vehicle on an open ended “I think we can get it for you at some point….”

I can chime in on this. My dealer advised me that my factory order was dropping the heated steering wheel. A week or 2 later he told me GM had rolled out a retrofit kit. Vehicles will still have the heated steering wheel button, the heating elements installed, but no chip. You push the button and it will light up but nothing happens. Fall 2022 they expect to install the chip (at no cost), the credit is now $25 CAD instead of $180 CAD. He send me a text of the GM letter.
