$1300 is after them tripling the markup. The LKQ ones come with a warranty if you are concerned about them. I bought one but have not put it in yet, it makes no noise and moves freely. I'm all for guys making money but don't want to bear the brunt of putting their kids through college!

If you are even remotely mechanically inclined and do not have to replace the ring and pinion gears, you can make this repair yourself in the driveway. My daughters and I have done it before. If I didn't trust anyone, I'd take it to the dealer.
Did I read this correctly..........I bought one but have not put it in yet, it makes no noise and moves freely.

How is that possible ?

Simply put.............I'm not physically able or have the place and equipment I once had to do a small pinion seal.
My service shop OWNER assured me they knew what their doing.
In less than 30 days and $1060.00 later I had a quiet ride again by a transmission/general repair shop.
I assumed they knew WHEN to replace the CRUSH SLEEVE............anytime you take the YOKE off you changed the PRELOAD on the pinion bearings. A very inexpensive item but necessary....JMHO

Is there anything different about installing a TrueTrac? Any different clearances or the preload compared to the original G80?
So far I have found an axle specialist, a 4x4 shop and a transmission shop so it's just to make a choice. The tranny shop is close, recommended and very convenient and not a 50 minute ride so it has it's advantages.
