I wonder if I need to have the mass air flow sensor installed to run it this way? It just dawned on me. I don't have the temperature sensor installed either. It has no clue what to do for fuel.

I was trying to start it with only the MAP sensor plugged in.... Also all the o2 sensors are out but I don't think it needs those for startup.

Its going to need the MAF to idle. Should start up, won't idle....just die.
I would plug in the coolant sensor.
And the IAT....if that's what you meant.

Are the crank and cam sensors new?

Doesn't need the 02 sensors to start up.

There are benefits to doing it on a stand......just seems like a lot of setup. and need a standalone harness.
This guy has the right approach. A test bed with a little more industrial strength.

I have old cam sensor in there. Not sure why that would be an issue?

everything is plugged in IAC included. Juat not MAFS or coolant temp sensor. I know the computer uses the temperature sensor to generate the outputs. I axtually cannot seem to find mine. I need to go buy a new temp sensor [emoji25]

The computer uses the coolant temp to regulate idle among other things, I don't know what it does if its not plugged in....probably nothing.

Do you have a compression gauge? Just in case it won't fire you should check the compression.

Do you have fuel pressure? How much?

Old cam sensor should be fine if it worked when you pulled the motor....I just asked.

@fasteddy checked fuel pressure by dummie test... Pushing pin in shrader valve haha. It actually fired up this last time. The problem was the MAFS, it couldn't meter fuel off speed density for that big a change w/o the MAFS. I don't have the coolant temp sensor plugged in and still seemed to work. I recall my old 1994 camaro having an intake temperature sensor. They must have done away with that.

On a comical note. I forgot the transmission cooler wasn't installed. Pump in transmission was like a super soaker and sprayed tranny fluid all over my garage hahaha

Question: how does the core support go together It seems to be the only hurdle in my way of assembling and getting the truck back on the road (that and installing sideband). I cannot for the life of me recall how the harness fits back into the radiator core support.

Sounds mean!

I swear I could hear the Johnsons filling up with oil.

What that through the full exhaust or just manifolds?

Speed Density? Are you doing an SD tune? You should getting running off the MAF first, its more dynamic and therefore more efficient.

Trans fluid ...... yuk ....that sucks. I've blown a coolant line before. Its like high pressure boysenberry syrup everywhere. And it stains aluminum something aweful.

You should record engine (start, idle, and revs) from engine compartment and from exhaust pipe (turn the lights off so we can see the flames! LOL)

You're in the homestretch now.

Thanks @fasteddy That startup was with open manifolds. I need to get back at neighbor's who's dogs bark nonstop every single time I go outside

Yeah damn tranny fluid got all over my nicely sealed frame, and softened the sealer I put on it. Not to mention sprayed directly at my TV in the garage

I just didnt want to put parts on, so my intake was off along with the MAFS. Plugged it in and fired right up.... I will first tune with MAFS... Well first copy LQ9 tables then start tuning.

No joke felt like a BADASS with the open manifolds haha.

I hit two silly road blocks

(1) my water pump bolts look like they were raised from the titanic. Unfortunately, I had to order them off eBay as they don't have any at the parts store.

(2) this bleeping headlamp wiring harness is driving me insane. I cannot figure out how it was attached to the core support.:banghead:

Started new thread here. Hopefully some folks have pictures of their front end taken apart so I can see how that wiring harness fits. Specifically I cannot figure out ends where the headlamps connect. It wraps around pillar somehow. Otherwise I'll have to drive 2 hours to the junkyard and take a look at a wrecked one.

OK.....during Matt's intermission I have a little entertainment.
I realized I don't really have any start-up vids except 1 from an old camaro.
So I a made a few more....this morning....LOL.

1968 Camaro Z/28 stock 302 through OEM manifolds and mufflers
In stock form this engine was a solid roller (like matt's LOL) and 11:1 compression.
Car wasn't done when I took this vid.

2002 Corvette Z06 434 LS7 through 2" Stainless headers, no cats, and stock Titanium mufflers

2014 Palatov D2 LS3 SBE LS7 heads through custom headers, no cats, and tiny mufflers

Love the old Z28s. I've never heard of a Palatov before.
