Not that I'm incapable, but I am "newer" to doing all this on my own, can you tell me how to do that? I've only assisted on all repairs for the last 20 years and now doing it myself.

***edit*** I just looked up how to do that and no, I don't have the tool to do so.
it's very simple to check compression using the tool it screws into the spark plug hole (just be careful with the loose spark plug cable ) I all ready got shocked multiple times per second with the ignition coil , it's like getting hit with a taser.... since you have a normal one you can take the cover off the relay and manually turn on the starter(this will not turn on the spark plug coils i think lol)

Old thread but applies to my issue too and hoping you can help me. 2008 Yukon XL flex fuel. Changed the coil and the spark plug and still getting the code. Swapped the cord to see if that was the issue but it didn't move and is still say #4. Now what?

I wouldn't drive it like that.

If you have the technical aptitude, I would pull the passenger side valve cover off and check the rocker arms on number 4 (passenger side, 3rd and 4th rocker from the front of the truck). If one is looser than the others, you likely have a collapsed AFM lifter.

If the 3rd and 4th rockers seem as tight as the others, with the rocker cover off, you can have someone start it for say 30 seconds while you observe those two rockers. It should start, if it doesn't start, that's OK, just watch those two rockers and observe if they are going up and down just like the others in that bank. If one is not going up and down, again, you have a bad lifter.

Don't run it too long (like less than a minute) as it might start making a mess.

I tried to upload a video but it's too big. My idol is going up and down while in park and when I put it into gear the engine sounds like a drum being hit. It's running rough, my stabilization is off and check engine light blinks.
try putting it on youtube

Welcome to the forum from Oregon.

The compression gauge can be rented. Find a mechanically inclined friend to help. Does sound like a dead hole causing this and a compression test would remove doubt.
