I have a 1998 Tahoe (original owner), does anyone know where I can get a replacement dashboard. The mechanic replaced it with one that did not fit, now it has a small crack in the center. Any ideas!!
Thank you,
Dee

Cracked dashes are fairly common in these trucks. Some folks replace the dash, which is time consuming and costly. Some folks put a pre-made overlay on it, but fit is not always 100% correct. And, some folks (like me) simply ignore the crack and pretend that it is not there.

Other folks will chime in with their own personal experiences in this area.

A simple fix for a crack less than 4 inches is to stop drill ends of crack(1/8 inch), Superglue very wet, While glue still wet carefully add Baking soda to holes and crack quickly. Cover with saran wrap and rub to get texture back. Might have to do holes twice. Baking soda makes it stonger and quick dry. Can do a little at a time to get the feel for it too. Dupli-Color has a spray can that matches perfect.

Any 1997-99 will fit. A 95-96 (without passenger airbag) will fit but you’d need to grab the a/c duct and swap it over.

There are no aftermarket versions, so aside from a donor dash from a junkyard I’d suggest a dash cap. Coverlay makes them, others do as well. They’re paint to match if the color mismatch would bother you. Best guess is it’s $150 for the cap and whatever spray paint costs. Check youtube for how-to videos.

They usually started cracking after ten years or so. If yours made it this long then it did pretty well. Not knowing the background, odds are it just cracked during the stress of removal and installation. It flexes a good bit in the process.
