I am looking to buy a 2006 1500 Crew Cab HD 4x4 with a 6.0 Liter V8 with 222,000 miles.

Can anyone provide the reliability and known repairs required of the 6.0 liter and the truck.
Owner says it has no leaks underside.
It has ride control for towing, air bags.

Issues owner mentioned,
1. oil pressure gauge needs replacing
2. one of the two air bags needs replacing (owner has two brand new air bags to install)

With the two above repairs, what cost am I looking at for a shop to do them?

Owner said differential fluids have been changed and they used royal purple.

I am wanting to look at it and drive it. I was going take my OBD with me and check for past codes.
What things should l look at on the 6.0?

I have read some times the crankshaft position sensor gets out of whack and has to perform a relearn.

Anyone personally own one of these and what typical issues would I expect if any and what is the overall mechanical reliability????

Thanks

I would want to know why an airbag needs replaced. Unless you meant airbag sensor. Those are cheap and super easy, you just unbolt and disconnect the connector. Recommend disconnecting the battery first. Oil pressure gauge could be the stepper motor or the sending unit. I do not own a 6.0, but they are very similar to other gmt800s. Mostly same issues as 5.3 / 4.8 that Ive heard.

Sounds like suspension air bags? Which could mean they used the truck overloaded.

Believe nothing a seller tells you, verify everything.

In general it’s a very reliable platform.

I’m guessing helper bags for towing? If so ask about trans service. My dad has an 06 and the only common issues are wheel bearings and lifter noise at start up. His has 190k miles and runs well. He replaced the trans at 125k. Good luck.

A lot of us have 00-06 well into the 200k mile.. they’re meant to be driven. I would of taken my Tahoe 205k mile Tahoe cross county without thinking twice.

I had my 00 for about 5 years 150k-205k miles . Did front hubs, shocks, new throttle body because had some weird starting issues temporarily. And that was the only repairs I had to make. The rest was general maintenance and fun upgrades

it’s mostly about price at this point. Don’t let the guy beat you over the head. It has 15 years of unknown history behind it.

Ps I ONLY sold my Tahoe because my wife insisted we get a “newer truck” for the baby. Not because I was worried of age and miles... and of course I wanted a Denali lol

I rebuilt the 5.3 liter on our Yukon November of 2019. Running good, lifter failed at 225,000 miles.
I like the style of the older chevy and yukons. Seems easy to change out the headlight lens as an example. Aside from the towing capacity on a 6.0L , how well does it tow compared to the 5.3liter?
Owner says air bag failed, not sure what caused it, oil pressure gauge since 2 years now. No lifter noise he states.

As for the airbag--Common issue is the front ds airbag sensor to go bad. Super, super common.

Is the cost of the air bag sensor reasonable.
Thanks
