Has anyone come across an actual SS? I always thought they were just a concept truck. But, according to the local chevy dealer my vin says mine is a real ss. The only info I could find from the dealer is that is was an appearance package. Basically yukon trim on a tahoe. Does anyone know where I could find that kind of info? Thanks

id think the rpo sticker would have a SS with in the codes. could also try a vin decoder site to back up the dealer.

As far as I know, there is no “Tahoe SS” that GM produced

Possibly some dealer package, but not directly from GM

I think the OP posted something similar to this last year. The dealer that is telling you your VIN decodes to an SS is lying to you. The SS/Vortec Max trucks In the GMT800 (99-06) all have the LQ9 6.0 Engine. This engine was released in 2002 specifically for Caddy and made its way into Escalades, Vortec Max, SS, and I think LTZ suburbans. The Denalis, H2s, and 2500 trucks and suvs used the LQ4 6.0. The main difference is pistons, although LQ9s got some other upgrades around 2004ish. For the 2000-2006 Tahoe’s, a SS package doesn’t exist. Like other members mentioned you could clone or build your own with the SS cateye truck aesthetics, LQ9 6.0, and the AXN rear 14 bolt axle offered in Escalades in this generation. That’s as close as it gets. I think we would have all loved to see a factory SS option for this body style, but no such luck. An SS Trailblazer is as close as it gets in this year range. Those are LS2 6.0s however and are slightly different than the LQ4/LQ9 engines. Mostly cam, heads, and intake comprise the differences.
