I started the truck with engine idle for a minute and heard a pop coming from the back and at first it sounded like a book fell into a box yet then I realized I don't have any books or boxes in the cargo area. After that sound the Check Engine light came on. No noticeable change in driving performance. It has been like this for two days and have been able to take it around town with no trouble..

It appears that the fuel pump is on its way out, truck stalled a few weeks ago half way on a 1000 mile round road trip yet gave no further trouble. I changed the gas cap, light is still on so must be something more serious. I'll have the fuel pump changed soon. Any ideas on how to find out exactly what this evap code is? Is there a way to get a more detailed code scan? I'm thinking the dealer could do it.

Thanks.

Update, the Check Engine Light went off a couple days ago. It appears that the new gas cap fixed the problem.

Yes, you could have gotten lucky that the cap is the problem but that code is still in history unless cleared with a scanner. Did you do that? How did you pull the code to begin with? At the age of the vehicle, you gave no year, make, model or mileage, you may well need more work on the evap system.

Hi, I have a 2002 Tahoe LT, 228,000 miles. I used an Innova 3030f reader that NAPA let me borrow. If there is something more serious I would like to get it fixed ASAP though. I'm not sure how to clear the code in the history yet I am about to take the truck for it's February 2021 inspection sticker deadline.

I have the same thing pop up every once in a while. There’s an updated evap line that’s supposed to fix it. I’ve also read you can clean out your current one.

Update I went on a roadtrip from Texas-Utah-Nebraska and the check engine light went on in Dallas. In Santa Fe found out the alternator was bad and after replacing the alternator the check engine light went away.
