Some here will not agree but I always install a new fuel pump relay when I do an electric pump replacement. It all stems from a story from when I was running shops years ago.
I would not argue against this one bit, cheap insurance. However, my experience with GM fuel pumps is that when they start to fail and pull more amps, the body side connector and tank assembly receptacle start to burn/melt. Had a lot of trucks come back on the hook with in a month of a new pump install, only to find that the mechanic overlooked the condition of the connectors.

That and if that happens that is also a great time to add on the relay. No relay lasts forever and it cost my shop some money one time because of a relay, so now I always recommend the relay and also do it with mine if needed. I very much tend to err to the side of caution and do an inexpensive relay for lots of electrical fixes. Plus, then I have extras I carry in my vehicle in case.

I’m assuming that’s the relay labeled F/PMP. I have some spare relays, so I will go ahead and replace that as well.

And just to clarify, I didn’t have an issue with the pump itself. I busted a fuel line and literally pumped out a full tank of gas in just over half an hour. I just figured while I’ve got the tank out, I’d replace the important parts while they’re easily accessible.

Correct on the relay labeling. It isn't something you have to do but I do recommend it with any new pump.
