Yeah DOD = AFM.

VVT != DOD, which is a routine mistake I see on various forums.

VVT = variable valve timing. DOD = displacement on demand.

VVT = good
DOD = good for mpg, but lifters are more prone to failure than regular lifters.

Building a 6.0L with custom cam. Have a thread on it. You will be hard pressed to find a cam for that power without cutting power down low to hit 400 HP. Our heavy vehicles need the power down low. Most cams I looked at made gr8 power but sacraficed something down low. I called Vinci Cams and he made me a custom cam.

Long story short, I'd not mess with the 5.3L much other than headers. I swap it for a 6.0 or 6.2... more practicle than modifying 5.3L to get 400 truck usable HP.

There are some guys that have shortbed single cab trucks and modify them to be speed machines. They can get away with some of the high lift, long duration cams as they are lighter vehicles.

There maybe a 5.3 L combo for you out there but would work much better with more cubes.

I am about to embark on this mission as well as a few other things with the Tahoe.

Not gonna waste any time. We just bought a crate motor, with 0 miles.

1.shave the heads to raise compression

2. Camshaft upgrade (any recommendations)

3. custom Live tune by someone.

If I get to 380-400hp I’ll keep the truck and never sell it.

I would check out Engine Power on Amazon Prime episodes 1 & 2. Some good info on LS build.

See, here’s the thing. I play with foreign cars, as my career so modifying is my love.

I watched a video on bringing the 5.3L engine to life. It made sense. Lower the compression, increase inhale, increase exhale and takeoff!!!!

I set the bar at 400 because it feels smooth. I’d like a round torque curve and most of the grunt low/middle.

But I’ve seen them get these 5.3s to 400.

I'd think you'd only want to lower the compression if you plan on running boost. Actually, what's the compression, like 9.5 or 9.9, which actually isn't too bad for low boost.

Why do you want to lower the compression ratio?

If you want a blower I have one LSA blower left!!!

Also you definitely want VVT, I can't believe the difference in the newest VVT Ecotech 3.0, my new PPV feels like a beast (and I have an 800+ crank HP V!)

Yeah shit can the AFM and VVT for sure.

There are plenty of recent builds in here; so pretty much any information you could need is here.

Since this is your thread, feel free to ask the questions in here and we can assist.

Back in October I did a complete tear down and rebuild on my '10 PPV. AFM/VVT delete, heads, cam and all associated parts.
