Hi folks, I'm in the market for a newer Tahoe/Yukon. Did GM ever solve the DoD issue, if so what year did the problem stop?

Thanks

I currently have a 2004 Tahoe with 220K miles. No problems, just think it's time for something a bit newer maybe 2015-2018. If the DOD problem has been solved.

GM made some improvements circa 2012, but can’t say that they solved the issues.

i would stray away from 2015 (changeover year+ a extra mid-year change)), and swing more towards the 2018, if you can swing a 18 you can probably swing a 19 albeit the prices right now are probably still inflated because dealers have been giving more on the trade in's to have something on the lot

If it matters I have 2016 LT with 96K miles and so far just plain old regular maintenance except for A/C Condenser.

If you buy a 2015-2017 make sure the A/C Condenser has been replaced otherwise you will have to do it eventually.

If you keep your vehicle serviced every 5K miles DOD should not be a problem on the 2015 + vehicles. If you can swing a 2018 like Wes said that be great even if the mileage is slightly higher then what you are looking for. Mileage never scares me as long as the vehicle was serviced on schedule.

Welcome from Miami Beach Rick!

the problem started in late 08 with the DOD/AFM system, pre that...you dont even have it.

my 04, fine with several hundred thousand miles, my 07..same, my 2013 never had any signs with 140K on it, and now my 17 with 49K...nothing yet, but a tune is planned for this one.

Displacement on Demand, or even Active Fuel Management...GM used a spectacular idea of controlling oil to the lifters to deactivate their use...essentially reducing the engine to a 4cyl.

problem is the oil cokes up and cause lifter failure taking the cam with it.

roughly a 4-5K fix it happens to you. Tune around it, range AFM tool or regular use of tow/haul can limit the DOD function

FYI - Tow/Haul mode does not disable AFM.

Thanks, I'm looking. I passed on a 2016 Police package that needed an engine. Should have bought it. Price was right.
