I have to replace the brake hose to my calliper but it won’t be in for another day. Currently I have a slow leak at the banjo bolt and would like to stop that until I get the new hose. I just put a pair of vise grips on the hose and it didn’t really seem to do a whole lot – is this the best way to seal off a hose? Maybe it just needs to be tighter?

So the details: The job started out as a brake fluid flush. The bleeder screw on my calliper was seized solid and I decided that I would rather replace the calliper altogether than fight with the bleeder for a couple of hours. The new calliper is on, but removing the old banjo screw from the brake hose proved to be more difficult. The old copper washer just didn’t want to come off. I ended up using a screwdriver to pry it down the bolt, but in doing so damaged the brass fitting at the end of the hose (I think it’s brass?). Now, the copper washer can’t make a proper seal and it’s leaking pretty steadily. Going to have to replace the hose and possibly put a new banjo bolt in.

ive seen guys use brake line clamps daily. I have a set, but personally dont like to use them on the odd chance it damages the line.

pair of needle nose vise grips works good, but be toprotect the brake line from damage. wrap the vise grip jaws in old coolant hose or something

stole the photo from quick google search

Thanks - this is basically what I have done without the protection as I’m replacing the hose tomorrow. I tightened up the vice grip and it seems to be working now.

Sounds like the perfect "I need SS flex lines" case.
