For those of you in the northern climates consider the trans cooler kits with the thermal bypass valve so at least your trans can try to come up to operating temperature. Doing 70mph at 10F has an effective -20F windchill.

I did a dumb thing.... I managed to cut one of the windshield washer hoses up front driver side by the spare battery box. What size rubber hose can I patch this with????:(

Go to the help section at the auto parts store and look for barbed plastic hosing connectors.

^^^ +1 for that, if you cut the rubber part. If you cut the plastic part, use a piece of vacuum hose that fits over the hose. I put a dab of super glue about 1/8" back from the cut ends of the hose before slipping the rubber hose over it to ensure it doesn't slip off.

It was the plastic hose...I told myself "now don't cut anything....."

And make sure to run through the radiator cooler first. That will help get it up to running temp quicker.

If you use the thermal bypass it won’t matter because nothing flows until the transmission fluid gets to 180*. So by the time the radiator gets warm enough to help, the trans fluid will warm on it’s own at which time the bypass opens.

So a trans will warm quicker than the engine?

I would think when it's that cold out you would let the engine start and idle for a bit to warm up. How quick does a trans heat up when it's just idle?

No the transmission takes a lot longer to reach operating temperature than the engine does at idle.
