Some chatter on another thread about engine hours got me thinking so I went out and checked the hours on both of our Denali‘s. The 2007 has 205,000 miles on it, but only 1,531 engine hours on the meter. Is it possible (likely?) that someone put a new engine in and reset the engine meter before we bought it? We bought it with 186,000 miles on it and as far as I know, the previous owner had all work done at the dealer.

Thanks for any input you can provide.

Not sure but I have been thinking about this recently. My 250k miles Tahoe has 8,900 hours which means an average of 28mph. Guess that doesn't seem totally out of the realm of possibility but I figured it would be substantially less if it factors in idle time.

Do a Google search. The engine hour counter can be reset unintentionally when the battery is low and someone tries to restart the truck. You're probably overthinking it.

Or you can reset it yourself. I’ve done mine when messaging with the mpg and such. Easy to do I wanted to see how much idling I was doing.

That ain't right because if it was, your truck's average speed would be almost 134 MPH! Sometimes they mysteriously reset themselves, ours reset when my daughter ran the battery down by mistake.

Thanks for the responses everyone. The truck is in beautiful shape both cosmetically and mechanically, so it would not surprise me if the previous owner had dropped a new engine in it at some point. But, I’m sure it will last another 100k

I had an alignment done 5-6 years ago. Got back in the truck, the hour meter was reset. Not sure how but it was. Shop said they didn't touch anything but I think the battery may have ran a little low and something weird happened.

Too bad it wasn't the mileage...ehh lol

That’s what I’m talking about! :) I was hoping that the engine hours meter would be a dealer reset item only. Oh well, still love the truck and it’s running great.
