So they have SD cards in them, and not hard drives? I thought my 2012 had a 30gb hard drive

I know that top pic of the front of the unit he posted isn't of a 2012+ hard drive unit. The buttons aren't the same and you can see where the front flips down for the nav dvd.

It looks like the one I had in my 2011

Would be very nice to have some where to go look at what HU is best for what you are trying to do. Say you find one but not sure if its what you need. Ive googled part numbers on those I have found but usually there is not much info listed about that HU.

Read the pdf of the user manual for clarification. Info on several GM Navi units is being spoon fed. Don’t care if discussing other GM products confuse or upset in a forum created for discussion of all things GM LOL!!

The HDD Navi is an obscure head unit that slipped under the radar just before the CUE /modular system came out in 14-15. The Esky got all those updates in 11 to early 14 except the Internal HDD.

Updated with a screen shot from the sellers eBay listing ...

They have a hard drive (HDD) and the screen flips up to access the SD card for updates to the Navi data when available.

So the Acadia or Escalade units use a SD card for updates?

I read through the pdf you linked to earlier and didn't see anything about SD card updates

It’s there, or in a supplementary page supplied later. Essentially there’s some action like holding down the CD/DVD eject button for 15 seconds then then screen rolls up.

Pretty sure the DVD drive Navi access the Navi disc that way too.

Yeah on my 2011 there was an on-screen button in one of the menus to eject nav disc and it caused the screen to flip down exposing another DVD slot behind the screen.

My 2012 doesn't, it has a hard drive and map update discs get fed into the top CD/DVD slot and copies to the hard drive then removed.

Thanks for clarifying that. The instructions on Nav data updates are usually included with the Nav data CD /SD. No info provided w/ the SD cards for Caddy’s except w/ a new SD
