Need it as quiet as possible without choking the flow

Before the recent mods, my exhaust was stock except for a Magnaflow 12259 clone and resonator delete. It was perfect- Not loud inside, no drone, quiet when cruising but roared at WOT/high RPM.

Now, headers and deleted cats have been added to the setup. It's much too loud. I don't see how the headers are to blame, but the lack of cats is surely my cause. I'm not putting them back on to act as mufflers. I first considered reinstalling a stock muffler, but that'd be counter-productive to the cam.

Summit has glasspacks with no necks in 18" and 24" lengths for $18 and $25, respectively. I could get two 18" or two 24" or one of each, whatever I have room for, and pretty much make that my entire piping from the flex pipe back to the arch that goes over the axle.

Anyone ever heard one of these rigs with a glasspack? Too many variables with YouTube videos to form a sound (pun intended) conclusion.

I'm not sure what to recommend. I ended up going with a 3' long Magnaflow XL 3 chambered muffler and reinstalling the factory resonator to tame mine back down after installing the headers and losing the cats.

Maybe adding a chambered muffler along with your current Magnaflow would be sufficient?

Chris,
I did something similar to what you are wanting to do to my Silverdo SS and it helped alot. I added 2 glass packs before the muffler and 2 more after the muffler. Reckon the Silverado had more room. It did change the sound of the exhaust which I didn't care I just wanted it quieter.

maybe install a flapper like they have on the 15+, it's supposed to cut down the v4 sound and then opens up at throttle, if you do that get one of the newer design I read the first design was squeaky

Just remove your spare tire and install the secondary muffler like the "Highbirds" have... it won't hurt performance any when you have the cutout open.

A second muffler was my other consideration. The Magnaflow is basically a glasspack, just with a slight "S" bend in it and a lot more packing around it. A large chambered one would cancel frequencies rather than mildly absorb them like the glasspack and general straight-through designs.

Could you feel any change in power? I can't find any inside pics of those cheap glasspacks I mentioned in the original post. If I go that route, I'd get perforated core rather than the louvered core.

I want this circuit to be as quiet as possible but without restricting the flow. I'll be adding an electric cutout for when I want the wide open/unmuffled/unrestricted circuit. I no longer have AFM, so that valve would always be open or even flapping. I guess I could adjust the spring tension, but this is complicated enough as it is.

In wanting a dual exit exhaust, I've come really close to doing this.
