Hello Everyone,

I am a new user here and first & foremost, I want to express my sincere thanks to everyone for the excellent and tremendous amount of information, experience and guidance shared on this platform. I’m Really surprised that there are so many owners who have such in depth knowledge of the cars/trucks. It really motivates and encourages me to reaching out to a good GM workshop and try to get some kind of basic training and then move on to advance level over time and pursue this as a very useful hobby. I am a mechanical engineer but in petrochemical industry, so I have very little and basic Knowledge about cars. Although I’ve always wished to learn tech stuff of at least the the car I use, I really struggle to find time to learn such technical skills to be able to judge what simple to complex issues could arise in my car and how I can try to fix them. Having good technical knowledge of the car i own, will definitely help me and others when needed. Thanks a lot again for allowing me to register here and to use this knowledge base.

I’ve a couple of issues with my truck and I could not find similar issues listed under 2015-2020 topics. I’ve used the search terms to find relevant topics in this application.

I’ve purchased a used Yukon XL Denali 2016 in March this year. This is my first SUV. The pre-2015 Yukon Denali model has been my dream SUV since many years. It was like love at first sight. Now the 2015-2020 is even more beautiful. I finally have it Now and I Absolutely love the SUV drive feeling, the comfort and the plenty of electronic/safety features it has. The truck is powerful, has a pleasant /smooth drive. The first few weeks were problem free. Then gradually the below issues began.

Please help/comment or guide me best possible.

1: USBs failure on the center console inside the armrest: both of them failed the same day. Tried to go through the fuse map to check the fuse. There’s nothing specific for USB ports location wise.

2: Rear infotainment system USB failed the other week. Only the SD card reader is working but getting very hot. Don’t know when it will fail due to this heat.

3: Driver & passenger cooled seats used to be very cold but now only the base/bottom of the seat is cooled but the back doesn’t cool at all. Sometimes feels like the back is getting very less cooling and sometimes like it is getting heated instead. Strange thing is that Both of them ( driver and passenger side) failed the same day. These were really very useful as the weather here in Saudi Arabia is really hot and one who is used to cooled seats finds it very difficult to drive in summer without it. Replaced the fuse on driver side today. It Did not help. My previous new 2016 Dodge Challenger RT plus had vented seats and those made me used to this convenience feature. Now I just can’t get enough comfort without them.

Please help and comment. Many thanks in advance.

Best regards,
Hasan

Welcome Mohammed, has there been any changes to the radio/entertainment system from stock? generally the usb ports are connected to the radio I have not heard of the usb ports failing before but it sounds like you may have a short somewhere.

sometimes the seat foam (cushion) gets squished/deformed and the venting then does work as well as it should, you may want to have a look under the seat covering and take a look.

I'd suggest checking the grounds for the infotainment and accessories systems. Someone else might be able to confirm this but isn't this the box located on the left side of the drivers foot-well?

Thank you everyone for your comments and suggestions. Sorry I couldn’t get back soon.

We in KSA are still passing through different phases of lock down due to COVID-19 and I had very limited time to go out of home to consult anyone for repairs.

I’ll visit GM workshop this week as we have more relaxed curfew from today. Allowed to go out till 8pm.

Strange update on the issues is that the Seats AC are back to normal now without any repair which is strange but very good. The back cooling unit in both seats is perfect now. In fact yesterday, a friend who was on the passenger seat turned it off as it was too chilled for him.

However, sadly the remaining front 3 USB ports have died today. 2 in front of the cup holder section and one inside the storage behind the intellink screen. They were working fine till yesterday. I’ve used two of them while going to work today. But while returning, none of them had power.

Just curious to know if there’s anything related to remote start. I use remote start & remote windows down almost everytime I drive in the day time to get rid of the cabin heat before stepping in. It helps allot. But the Ac blower is at top Max level by default when remotely started. Is this hurting the electrical system somehow? I always turn off the AC blower before I turn off the engine. Heard it is good for the compressor while using the ignition.

Another very likely issue is with the grounding system as suggested in comments. Will definitely get them checked this week & will also confirm if there’s been any mods on the media system.

Will update you later.
Thanks again.

First I’ve heard of USB failures also...and from the sounds of your seat cooling issues I’m wondering if you’ve got a ‘electrical gremlin’ that might be causing some of your issues....I’ve had similar ‘weird electrical glitches’ from time to time that usually correct themselves with the next restart...or in a couple cases I’ve disconnected the battery and let it sit for 20-30 min then reconnected the battery and everything was reset fine...might give that a try as a simple check...

with all the electronics, monitors, and startup sequences with these newer vehicles it doesn’t take much to get something out of sequence and error out or give a ‘check engine light’.

The battery disconnection and reconnection resolved the USB issues. [emoji1360]

Thank you so much. This really helped.

As far as starting with a/c on or off. Years ago that may have been true..... there wasn’t any or they didn’t have such sophisticated computers in vehicles and when you started, everything came on at once, this actually wasn’t as bad for the compressor as it was for the strain put on the battery.... like leaving wipers, blower fan, a/c compressor etc....and turning key to start. with the computers now when you attempt to start the computer will delay engagement of certain accessories until the vehicle is actually running.... think about it, even if you turn the a/c off manually before shutting the truck off when you remote start...it comes on....then when you actually start it you need to turn the system on.... all by computer..... this is all my opinion anyway and I haven’t touched a/c controls in years... leave it on auto and go...
