I was looking through that Canton Racing catalog and came across something I’ve never heard of- an accumulator. It’s a tank that stores oil- in the case of the one I’m looking at it holds 3 quarts- at the normal high pressure of your engine. You plumb it in to your oil system and then you need an electric valve that you can hook to a switch or just to the ignition switch so pre-oiling of your engine is automatic. When you start your engine, it pumps 3 quarts of oil into your engine, pre-oiling everything so you save wear on your engine. It also operates during driving so if your pressure fluctuates during hard cornering or accelerating this will steady the pressure. Pretty cool, I bet it would really cut down on engine wear since most of it occurs on startup. I think the complete system is about $400.

Thats cool! So the valve closes when you shut down and opens on startup?

From Canton:
Once installed the operator only needs to open the manual valve or turn on a toggle switch to activate the valve before the engine is started. The opened or activated valve releases the reserve of oil that is under pressure in the Accusump to pre-oil the engine’s bearings for a non-scuff start. After the engine is running and the oil pump builds pressure, oil is pumped back into the Accusump for the next restart or whenever the engine’s normal oil pressure is interrupted or begins to drop. The Accusump will automatically charge and discharge as needed to maintain oil pressure during hard cornering, acceleration and braking.

So it works with a piston and a valve. It has an air tank too. But it all works automatically during startup if you wire the switch to ignition and while driving.

I like that. If connected to a relay powered when the ignition is on you could key on for a bit, see pressure on the gauge and then start.

Common with racecars that sit for a while. Ever heard one rev up kinda high before they shut it off for the week? They're probably "charging" the accumulator with higher oil pressure so when they start it at next weekend's races, it won't be so dry.
