GM Performance Drop-in Air Filter unboxing GM part# 84544587

Actually there is very little difference between stock AC Delco and Wix. Wix filter a bit better at filtration but gets loaded and restrictive faster than stock. I would say stock AC Delco is a good balanced filter. However, point of this discussion why GM came up with this "Performance" filter, they cannot be that cynical to put out a product that is red in color with zero performance improvements and sell us a laser cut metal Performance label for $135. I agree with @Dantheman1540 this Performance Media filter + Airaid Jr tube if measured would they give any advantage on GPM or HP? Blackbear guys were clear that Airaid Jr is completely uteerly useless by itself, but with this GM Performance media, will it remain useless. I agree this is a very controversial but also very curios discussions. I doubt Blackbear would do another CAI soon. ProjectFarm guy is not looking to deal with GM accessories either plus his tests do not include dyno.

My subjective (purely by feel) experience with this GM Performance drop-in after 20 miles is the following:

1) Absolutely no tangible improvement in throttle, does not feel any different than stock.

2) Idle with this drop-in got "rougher", with stock air filter it was butter smooth, perhaps needs time to re-learn the new air flow.

3) Sound has not changed at all



Stock filter that came on my truck is Air Filter ACDelco A3218C and it is a very good filter. My previous Yukon came with A1618C

What is important to note that GM Performance filter part #84520923 and OEM stock #2334985 are manufactured in Canada, lettering print and construction speak to to the fact that both filters are made at the same factory. While part #25332443 is made in USA but quality of the 2334985 seems better.



My initial conclusion: it is not worth the $125. If you really need improvements, I suspect full GM OEM Performance CAI is needed but nobody yet put GM's Performance CAI on dyno.
