I recently purchased a 2003 SSV and I am looking to get some part recommendations so I can get a set of tires (most likely 285/75 R16) under the truck without rubbing. This is an initial build on the truck and I plan on doing some light wheeling and beach running.

I don't know what the suspension differences are between the SSV and the LS/LT/Z71 models, but I have seen on several parts websites, when looking at shocks, that some say they are not for the police model. I am assuming that the SSV sits lower to the ground than the other models which means shock length needs to be considered. Are there other suspension differences I need to be aware of? I would like to use Bilstein 5100's, just not sure of which ones because of possible suspension differences.

What offset do I need to get for the wheels or can I run the stock wheels?

Can you guys provide links to the parts that you would recommend using (hopefully based on personal experience) for the following list?

Torsion Keys
Bilstein 5100 Front Shocks
Bilstein 5100 Rear Shocks
Rear Coil Springs (I don't really want spacers if I can avoid it)
Electronic Locker

Also, will I need limit straps for the rear to keep the coils in place if I am in a situation where one of the rear tires is off the ground?

I was hoping someone would know if there was a difference between the suspensions. I really did not want to have to deal with the dealership........Oh well. Maybe I will swing by tomorrow and get their input.

Here's the real deal. I am looking to do a similar solid axle swap to the Rosco P Drivetrain articles on the FourWheeler Magazine/website. after running through the numbers, I am coming up with about $13k in parts:

Front Axle (Ford 05+ Dana 60)
Rear Axle (Ford 05+ Sterling)
Hydro Boost Conversion
Rear Rod Ends
Rear Rod Inserts
Front Rod Ends
Front Rod Inserts
Tubing for Links and Panhard Bars
Wheels
Tires (probably just 35x12.50) (maybe clearenced for 40s) Either which way I plan on extending the wheelbase of the truck
Front Coilover Mounts
Front Coilover Towers
Front Axle Panhard Bracket
Front Frame Panhard Bracket
Front Coilovers
Rear Panhard Bracket
Rear Frame Panhard Bracket
Rear Lift Coils
Rear Shocks
Front Drive Shaft
Rear Drive Shaft
Crossover Steering
Rear E-Locker
Front E-Locker
Bump Stops
Limit Straps

The plan is to do some basic upgrades right now and start saving up for the suspension parts over the next 2 years or so. Then maybe in the future do a Duramax/Allison swap.

Does anyone see any glaring items that I am missing in the above list?

Has anyone relocated their windshield washer reservoir, rear AC/Heat unit or gas tank hose? Or added a subwoofer to a SSV?

With where I am located on the east coast, I could not find a shop that that didn't have a year plus wait for that kind of work. So I moved on and just did a simple leveling of the truck and put 285/70R17s on it. I am probably going to eventually try and do a dana 44 swap using a late 90's Dodge Ram 1500 front axle. Until then I am gonna get out and explore the east coast with by buddies.

I'm in MD, where do you and your crew four wheel? Is it a formal group? I see this pic was in PA, about 3.5 hrs from me.
