Well as a Tech I'm interested in how they came to that diagnosis then. Dealers are notorious for "recommending" things that not bad.

As a customer, you need to ask for proof of the diagnostics. They just can't look at it and say, oh yeah its bad, here's you $2k ticket for the job.

I don't know how they would determine a strut being bad either but couldn't you do a test sort of like a ball joint and use a crow bar to articulate the control arm up & down and from either comparison or experience be able to determine if the strut is working properly or not?

This is something I have preached about so many times here when a member posts about another tech, dealer or independent, saying something is bad but no explanation why is given. There HAS TO BE A REASON for any tech to say something is bad and needs repaired or replaced. Get that info and don't let them be lazy or a thief. I freakin' hate thieves.

I look at shocks and struts at the 60k mark unless there is accident damage or a premature failure in your case.

I "think" there should be a DTC if the mag ride has failed? Is there a stability related code, light or message ?
I don't think they give codes unless the internal electronic portion has failed or if the right height is out of spec, I think the actual "shock" portion is dum and like a fuel pump, it may say yes it's working were giving it 12v yet it's not. same with the rear air ride shocks those things blow out all the time and you never get a error other than a ****** ride.

My wifes passenger shock failed (was locked right up) and flat out riding horribly dangerous...not a single code thrown.

She mis-typed the text... alignment is $129 and that the 700 is the “gm goodwill priced calculator” for the whole repair

I'd go for it at that price. Seems like you got a good dealer there after all.
