Hi everybody! Some of you are probably like me when it comes to prowling GM's build and price tool...I see, I want, but gawd are those things expensive.

My question is about the Brake upgrade in the options section for the current model. Have any of you gone to the parts counter to order all this stuff? Does it fit the 07-14 series?

Sooner or later our 07 will go for a long nap including paint and ??? Wanting to hear other's results

If I recall correctly, and I guess I could be wrong depending on existing sizes and such, I have seen and heard where when you do the brake upgrade and parts are bigger, you need bigger wheels for clearance.

stick with what you have you can always use M mode for engine braking so it's not really necessary to "upgrade them" .. unless you added some power to it i.e turbo or supercharger

I never really understood the “you need bigger brakes for more power”, unless you’re removing the governor and wildly going faster than you were originally, it will stop exactly the same as stock power. Faster acceleration does not require more braking.

I did the powerstop upgrade for the front and rear.
Better quality pads and slotted (not drilled) rotors.
I can feel a difference. If a "big brake" option weren't so expensive I would
have like bigger calipers and rotors. I have 20" wheels..
No such thing as Too Good of Brakes

Figure about $1.5K min for just the front if you want in the BBK / big brake klub or big brake kit. If that doesn't scare you find a kit that accepts oem bigger brake parts or you'll add another few C notes for every pad change. The NNBS trucks weak point are the rotors. They're too thin and prone to thermal issues.

On a vehicle this big you'll notice almost any improvement. I'll time machine back to 14 when we picked up our pre loved 08 from a Mopar dealer. They installed new brakes and tires. It was an amazing test drive. Less than a 24 Mo. later the OEM pads had gassed material all over the chrome clad 20's and the material was built up all over the rotors making them useless. It took hours and hours to get all pad material off the chrome.

>2016 or four years have elapsed after installing ceramic pads and zinc coated slotted/drilled rotors. The outcome, nothing. No more brake schmutz on the rims, no more pulsing (warping) from pad material build up, no rusting of the rotor material, no noise, they work hot or cold and still look new. I used OEM sized:

POWER STOP AR8654XPR / AR8658XPR f/r * OEM size is 12.99in / 13.58 * Yes from the factory, the rotors in back are bigger.
BOSCH QuietCast Ceramic BC 1092 / BC1194 f/r

Figure $290 on the above OEM size option that's proven on three of our vehicles.

Some BBK kit may leave you underwhelmed because the rotor increase doesn't look that big to the eye. Figure 13" up'd to 15" for both front and rear. The increase in braking will come from more surface area on the pad and better pedal feel when adding a few more pistons to the caliper.

When your doing stupid stuff you need more braking power..

Adding power is doing stupid things..

on my old car i learned how to drive on I put new brakes all the way around (highend stuff) and had them adjusted for MAX stopping power (extra thick iron rotors with ceramic pads )

That baby could stop on a dime you could do POWER stops if you were NOT wearing your seat belt you could expect to

A: fly out the windsheld
B: fly into the dash(this actually happened i did a POWER stop at 15mph "insta stop" and my friend flew into the dash.) LOL he always wore his seat belt after that in my car...

that car was fun I miss it, but was costing too much to fix so i get newer one...

on my tahoe i hardly use my friction brakes anymore
as i can time most traffic lights.. The Dynamic braking normally is enough. and the engine braking will stop it faster as well.

it has Automatic brake lights no worries

that is how i'm able to get high MPG if I time everything just right i can get 30-31mpg in the city* and highway**
i always try to take the specific route that will give me the best mpg even if it's few miles extra..

* on specific routes other wise it's 23
** on a specific route other wise it's 27

if you want you can upgrade to the corvette brakes but you will need complete setup and larger rims...

I suggest installing light weight tires and rims this is a better option lighter rotating mass will Stop faster and accelerate faster with less losses in the powertrain ...

also a freebee power upgrade is to pump the tires to 44PSI (or max sidewall)...(DECREASE in wet weather to 36PSI duh)

10% efficiency increase for free. (this shows up as a 10% gain in fuel efficiency )
