3rd UOA, 07 Yukon Denali w/6.2L, 8600 mile, Mobil Delvac 1 ESP 5w30

When this load of oil had 4000 miles on it, a plastic heater hose fitting broke. By the time I got off the hwy and pulled into a parking lot the temperature of the engine was quite HOT. I believe that is why the results are what they are.

Hindsite being 20/20, If something like this ever happens again, I'm going to change the oil immediately. Otherwise the results aren't too bad. Elevated aluminum and iron are probably from pistons, and cylinder walls/rings rubbing together when it got hot. Viscosity was starting to thicken. Virgin is 12, results are 13.2. TBN is at my personal minimum of 2.0. The lab, OAI, got the weight of this oil sample wrong, so the Baseline(BL) #s are wrong. So they flagged a few things that they shouldn't have. The sample I sent them, and the results are for, is 5w30, not 5w40 that is printed in the data at the top. In 2019 I sent them a virgin 5w40 sample, so that's what they used for a BL? The previous 2 loads of oil and reports were 5w40. I guess they didn't notice that this time I had switched to 5w30? I'll call them an get them to fix that.

I changed the oil and filters immediately after I pulled this sample. Usually I will wait to get the UOA results. The results usually indicate (to me) that the oil is good for another 1 or 2 thousand miles before it needs changing. Not this time. When I pulled this sample I thought the oil looked different/bad. I'm no expert but I've pulled a bunch of samples in the 10+ yrs that I've been doing UOA. When I cut the full flow filter open, I let the media gravity drip drain/dry for a week like I always do. But this time it stayed dark looking, almost black. If wouldn't turn the golden brown color like all my past Fram XG filters have done from my various vehicles. So this time I rinsed the media in Paint Thinner for a minute then let it drip drain/dry. The result is the bottom media in the picture below. The upper media is from the previous oil/filter change. Yes, I keep my old filter media in case something like this happens.

Here's some relevant data about the vehicle and oil:
Vehicle is stock, all aluminum non-AFM/DOD 380hp, 6.2L, L92
We use it mainly to drive back and forth between our two homes that are 1000 miles apart.
The engine had 157,200 miles and 4818 hrs since new when this sample was pulled.
The DIC read 25% remaining
This oil had 8600 miles and 184 hrs on it,
The vehicle consumed 524 gals of 89 octane unleaded since the oil was last changed
Avg 16.4 mpg, last time it avg 15.7 mpg
Avg 47 mph, last time it avg 45 mph
Avg 2.86 gph, last time it avg 2.88 gph
The engine does not burn or leak any oil.
The catch can collected 1oz of liquid in these 8600 miles, last time also 1 oz.

I again installed 7 qts of Mobil Delvac 1 ESP 5w30, a Fram XG10575 full flow filter, and a Amsoil EaBP90 bypass filter. I plan to go another 8-9k miles then send in a sample.

What say you?

View media item 28185Upper media is untouched from previous filter change,
lower is from this change, and I washed it with paint thinner

Don, what did you base your decision on to run diesel oil in an aluminum gas motor? Numbers look good to me.
This oil is DUAL rated for spark and compression engines. It meets or exceeds API SN & SM requirements. Here's a link: https://www.mobil.com/en-US/Commercial-Vehicle-Lube/pds/GL-XX-Mobil-Delvac-1-ESP-5W30

Also, I bought a bunch of it on sale in 2018 for $10/gal & in 2019 for $13/gal.

I replaced the plastic heater hose fittings w/Gruven metal fittings.

I say you put in one quart too many.

And honestly, I never understood the drive to do extended oil change intervals. I do every 5k and call it a day. I've never had an oil-related engine failure, and my 6.0 2500 has 198k miles, I have two Jeeps with 100k, and my original "beater" truck, now owned by my best friend, has 285k on the original 5.3.

Bill/intheburbs, the DIC said: 25% remaining ? so this wasn't an extended oil change interval. Some folks here on TYE may remember what a mess this vehicle was when I bought it 17 mths. Read my threads from Oct-Dec of 2018. I resurrected it from the dead. Its a great vehicle now.

Our 07 Yukon 6.2L Denali holds 7 qts because 1 yr ago I added a remote spin-on engine oil bypass filtration system, Amsoil EaBP90, that holds an additional qt of oil. I posted a thread here on TYE back when I did it.

I've never had an engine problem either.

I do extended oil changes and used oil analysis so we on the forum might learn something, and I find it interesting. Some folks appreciate that I spend the $$ on UOA so they don't have too.
Wasting time and $$ changing fluids too soon isn't my cup of tee either. We own 3 SUVs, a Prevost bus/MH(10 gals oil, 7 gals syn ATF, 24 gals HD EL coolant), 2 race cars, an airplane, 51 Chevy LS powered 5 window PU, Kubota diesel generator, a golf cart, all sorts of lawn equipment. I'm a DIYer. UOA & xOCI saves me quite a bit of time and money. Problems can be prevented and/or discovered early with UOA. Clogged injector(s), rod bearings need replacing(my Kubota diesl), etc, which saves headaches, time, and $$.

I've been doing Used Oil, ATF, & Coolant Analysis for 11 yrs on various vehicles. I mainly use Oil Analyzers Inc for oil & coolant, but I have also used Blackstone twice for oil. I use JG Lubricant Services too, mainly for ATF. I'm currently waiting to receive a report from JG about this Yukons ATF that has 26k miles on it.

My daily driver is a 07 Toy FJ Cruiser w/202k miles. I've owned it since Jan 09 and I've been doing extended OCI & UOA on it since Dec 09. I added an engine oil bypass filtration system soon thereafter. It doesn't leak of burn any oil either. It is an all aluminum engine too. It's never had any issues or thrown any codes. When I got the FJ I used conventional oil and changed my oil every 3000 miles. The owners manual says to change it every 5k miles. Since Dec of 09, I've never changed the oil in less than 10k miles, and I've gone as many as 18.7k miles. I avg 14k miles between changes. I've done 11 UOA on the FJ.

For the past 11+ yrs I've spent a lot a time reading and learning on the "BobIsTheOilGuy" forum.

I hope this helps.
