I am trying to replace my 2003 GMC Yukon 5.3 steering column shifter mechanism. I purchased the Dorman replacement. I can’t figure out how to remove the cable from the back of the ignition. It has a hook on the top of the cable going inside the ignition and will not come out. Can anyone please advise me on how to remove this a without breaking it. I am sure there is a simple trick that I am overlooking. I have tried removing the ignition but you can’t remove the cable when the ignition is on (ignition calendar has to be on to remove it but that locks the cable inside the shifter ) Thanks!
