Alright so, I have a 04 tahoe z71. I have all gears except for reverse and a loud grinding noise in reverse. It's the exact same when I switch it from 2 hi to 4hi and 4lo. Its electronic transfer case. Last time I moved it I'm pretty sure I could push it in park and it made a loud clicking noise. Pretty sure the grinding noise is coming from the transfer case. Can someone help? Thanks in advance!

The park noise is your park pawl either busted or your shifter is misadjusted and you arent all the way in park. Check this as it could be cause of everything else. Reverse and forward gears ALL come from your transmission. Your Tcase is just a reducer/multiplier. The Tcase has nothing reverse/forward built inside it. If your noises are coming from tranny then you either have a busted planetary or sunshell. If its the Tcase it is most likely a bearinggone south. Check your fluid levels lately?

As was suggested in another thread for the same post, you can also put in the air on jack stands and have in forward and reverse gears and crawl under to inspect/listen for the source of the noises and problems. Mike is also right, the trans is where the forward and reverse are and the transfer case reacts to inputs.
