I am old to GM but new to Tahoe forum. I have worked on cars for a long time. I have to admit I have forgotten a lot so please be kind and help an old man.

As other have stated above, there are a number of us here who remember doing tune-ups every 10,000 miles, replacing points, condensers, and rotors.

As far as I am aware, the last set of points I installed have not failed.

And, I forgot to mention, adjusting the dwell angle.
I still have a dwell meter. God I am old.

Me too!!! I tried to explain it to my sons, and they just stared at me. Geeezzz...I still have a dwell meter. God I am old.

Wait till you show them the collection of crazy shaped distributor wrenches that you have. Then the blank look in their eyes about "what the hell is a distributor?"
If you ever tell them you can set the point gap with a match book cover the are going to flip out.
