My 2-door 1999 Z71 Tahoe only has 68,000 miles and it is pretty much brand new from the paint to the interior. I noticed that every time I removed the spare from the rear compartment, I would get the black glue of death all over everything. I took it apart today and removed as much of this crap as possible from the spare tire carrier and spare tire. I think it was supposed to be a rubber cushion for the spare tire carrier when the tire rested on it bu it has melted into this horrible black semi-liquid crap. Now I have some of it in my carpet. Anybody have any luck removing this stuff from carpet?

not sure where to get it but your going to want a cloth friendly adhesive disolver. or you can try to use some regular 3m adhesive remover and a toothbrush. the carpets do use some adhesive when they are made. so dont use too much. after you have loosened it up and tried your best to not spread it around some regular oxy auto upholstery cleaner to remove the rest of the residue. you can also try using wd40 in the same method.

I started hating you when you said you had a '99 2 door Z71 with only 68K miles. ;)

Have you tried any of the typical degreaser things? Just be sure to try it on a fairly hidden are in case it discolors the carpet.

It's coming out with mineral oil slowly. Lacquer thinner definitely dissolves it but I'm worried it will do more damage than it helps. Here's my Tahoe named "Pepe", AKA the "Little Mule". Not a scratch on her.

Now I got the crap all over my arms somehow. It's like the proverbial tar baby. I work at the hospital and can't have my patients see that stuff all over my arms. I know what I'm doling for the next 30 minutes.
