I would check and clean the ground under the truck where the harness goes down and bolts to the body.

OK, went under and couldn't see where the grounding strap was. Felt along the harness up through the spare tire area and couldn't feel anything coming off the harness.
Do you have a schematic or any idea where it would be?

Thanks

I don't have a schematic... I thought it was right there under the truck at each corner... but my memory may be a little fuzzy.

I'm due for my inspection and have been neglecting this brake light mess. Went out just now and put a new bulb in and it popped instantly. What's weird is the parking light stays on. Its just the brake light that pops.

This is the same side I replaced the harness about 5 years ago.
Someone mentioned to me that harnesses can go bad every so often. Is this true? If so, I may order another one tonight.

Have you measured the voltage for both the running and brake light circuits?

the bulb is acting as a FUSE.

your running a lot of current threw it that is why it's popping "instantly" you have a wire problem elsewhere..
and the parking light being ON, your grounding something else .. that is not pulling much current to pop the fuse aka the filament..

so the light bulb is acting as a ground path with high current on the brake light circuit .

so you have

a shorted brake light circuit.( that is shorted as a ground path for a high current device)

maybe a mouse got to your wires ..

I have not. I actually have no idea how to hah. I don't anything about electrical.

Sorry if this sounds stupid but, does this mean that there may be a few wires exposed and all touching each other?
Sounds like I have to go tracking some wires this weekend.

possibly a few got chewed up... and it's crossing wires do you happen to have any other issues ?

As odd as this may sound, no other issues.
This issue started when I cut my resonator off and melted the original harness. After I replaced it with a new harness, bulbs started to pop. This has been going on for three years actually. Only reason I remember is, its always out when I get an inspection. They put a new bulb in every time. I was trying to beat them to it this year haha.

maybe more was melted elsewhere?
