Looking for 2016-2019 Suburban or Yukon XL and noticed in photos that some have 4x4 low on selector knob and some do not? What option is this and what models include 4x4 low?

Is it a must have?

Z71 models and those with enhanced towing package which will usually include 3.42 gears. Not sure which RPO codes or the nomenclature they use on the K2s.

Do you NEED it? Not with great tires unless you plan to play/work off road a lot. Auto and 4HI is primarily used for foul weather, rain and snow but can ably handle dirt roads and some soft sands and such. If you tow a boat, get it! Make sure it comes with the integrated trailer brake controller and if it does and is a 4x4, it will certainly have the MP3023 2-speed transfer case.

Everything he said. 4H will generally cover the vehicle in most places most of the time, while 4L is useful when pulling (boat, stump, yo ass up a steep hill)....

I have had 4WD vehicles with 4L capability for 15 years and have used 4L twice. Once to pull out stumps of bushes I cut down around my house and once to pull a trailer through some unexpected mud at our local compost site. Other than that, never needed it, even in some deep Iowa snow.
