took 2007 tahoe in for oil change and at the end the guy tells me my airbag light is on and they can diagnose it and fix it. I said no because they lied when I asked about tire rotation and they said it was done. LIE LIE LIE I sat outside and watched the whole time when I told him he said that he was told it was done and to pull it around and do it again i said no that's fine I don't want them touching my suv anymore
Now where do I start to look for the reason my service airbag is on?
Thanks for any help

you can either buy a code scanner that supports abs/airbags, or...go by any autozone, o'riellys, etc and they will scan it for free and tell you what the code is, if you plan on doing a lot of DIY work then a tech2 is the best option they run about $300 for a Chinese version but they do everything the dealer can do.

You need a scan tool like a Tech2 to check the air bag codes. That will lead you to the problem.

If they are a shady shop I would check the yellow connectors behind the front bumper which is close to where they would have been working on your truck changing the oil.

They could have unplugged something. Also check your fuses.

I have the same issue (service airbag). I took it to my mechanic for a AC compressor replacement and after a week, I saw the service airbag and airbag light. I didn't take it in for a Code read to see what the issue may be. I assume that it may be the sensors which I will replace once they arrive. I hope that fixes the issue. Today the light went away when I did a quick errand but then it came back. May be a wire, sensor, who knows but I will do the checking when the sensors arrive. I wonder, since there's a recall on air-bags, if this is covered under that recall. Please let me now if anyone has solved this issue with a sensor replacement, DORMAN 500-203

I too have the same issue after having changed my IP and clockspring which fixed those two problems and restored my steering wheel functions. Having changed those two things I got the service air bag error. Did a diagnostic and it gave a service air bag error code and an additional code which indicated to check connections (voltage low), so I would assume the connection behind bumper as said here in another post. Also did the fuse removal thing which did not seem to help. That's where I'm at.

the common problem with the airbag light is one of the front impact sensors will go bad, there is 2 located under the front bumper, the left & right are the same part number.

Replaced front impact sensors and airbag light went off. Roughly $190, Rock auto, for both sensors and a half hour.
Can anyone elaborate a little on the location and procedure involving the replacement of these sensors?

Airbag light just came on in my wife's 2012 LS Tahoe. Planning to get it scanned soon

On the 12 they are located on the backside of the front bumper and are removed from the rear with a star bit, previous years are removed with a front bolt not sure what year they made the change but I'm guessing 2010, just get under there with a flashlight and you will find them
