Motor is blown. Bearing material in the oil filter. So.......now what? It needs another motor. Any suggestions or ideas?

Get the best, lowest-mileage 6.0 or 5.3 you can afford and drop it in. Use whatever is good off your current one. The cam is likely to have scoring from the shrapnel that circulated through the oiling system. It won't be what you had, but at least you'll have your Tahoe back and can regroup during better circumstances.

Of course, this all depends on balancing the cost of repair with the sentimental and street value of your Tahoe.

So change the oil filter and then there won’t be anymore bearing material in the filter. Jeez, I gotta state the obvious for you? [emoji2957]

That blows!! If it were me, I wouldn’t mess with a used engine. Anything that has lower miles is gonna be near $1000-1500 in a 6.0. At least near me anyway. I see reman engines for $1500-2000 but your also getting a warranty and not an engine where you don’t know the history or maintenance. It’s definitely a kick to the groin but you either get back up and ask for seconds or you stay down and cry about it. I’m at $3k and still climbing for a ******* trans. But what do you do? What’s a vehicle worth that doesn’t run? If you want out, put a used 5.3 in it and put a for sale sign on it and cut your losses. Or push it into the river and do the jingle,
“Like a good neighbor, State Farm is there!!”

Damn man. That sucks. Was really hoping for better news. I think you’ve got to hang onto her, and replace the motor myself, but understand that’s a tough choice. Reman motor like Snowbound said, sounds like a good option.
