Exterior Temp Display?

03 Tahoe Z71.

Over the weekend, I got freeze warning on the DIC, so it leads me to conclude it has an exterior temp sensor. Quick look through the grill, and I see the temp sensor. I do not see the exterior temp displayed on the HVAC head like my 02 Traiblazer LTZ did. Is the display buried in the DIC menus? Was it on the OEM radio display? Rear view mirror (the original one had a blank display, which I presume was compass, as it was on my 02 Trailblazer LTZ)?

Rear view mirror on my '01 Z71. Not sure if that changed with your '03. Was your mirror changed out at any point?

The temp and compass display is on the mirror. Sounds like your display went bad and was changed. Is that correct?

Mine is an 05, but they are all very similar IIRC.

My '04 is just like this, both direction and temp in the mirror display.

Yep, it’s on the rear view mirror along with the compass on the NBS.

Ok, that explains it, thanks. Yes, the original mirror's display was out. I knew the compass was in that display, but did not know that temp was. I swapped mirrors and installed the mirror from my 02 Trailblazer, which only showed compass, as temp was on the HVAC head. Compass lights up with the trailblazer mirror.

My 04 mirror occasionally goes 'dark' on the compass and temp display. It appears to be the mirror case not being tightly snapped together which then allows the display to move back away from the mirror face, at which point you can't read it or just very very faintly see it. A squeeze with the hand will usually bring the display back to the forefront. Give it a try. YMMV....

Mine does that too, sometimes I tap it and it comes back. I heard it might be cold solder joints on the circuit board but when I opened it up it looked good. I reflowed some but no change. It’s random as hell.

And for what it's worth, hold the power button down for 5-8 seconds to disable auto dimming, if you have that
