Lifter(s) must have dropped have misfire on all 8 cylinders traction control light activated. Brother’s Snap-On analyzer showed misfiring and the noise motor was making. Wife had gone on a trip and said it powered down coming in and barely ran.

Is there a 6.2 or 6.0 liter that does not have active fuel management? Shops I have talked to will rebuild motor to factory specs. Prices quoted for what I consider a junk motor is unbearable. I would like to find a non-AFM motor and install it myself however after reading many articles I’m not sure if one exists.

Any help to clarify what options, if any, I have will be appreciated. Bought this 10 months ago for wife. This is my first time ever to buy a lemon GMC product. The freaking cost of this motor is more than it cost me to rebuild my ‘57 Bellaire with help of my Dad in 1976. Not too mention, someone is not letting me live down the fact that I bought a lemon and her vehicle needs to be fixed or replaced.

Any guidance is welcomed.

Welcome to the forum from Iowa.

A quick answer is yes, 6.2L without AFM exist as the ‘07 and ‘08 Denalis did not have them.

Outside of that, many folks here have done a full AFM delete on their vehicles.

If you do a quick search for AFM delete you will find a myriad of threads in the subject. If you chose to rebuild, I am sure there are shops that will rebuild to your specifications. Maybe not a dealer, but some of the local private guys will.

That being said, you will likely need a tune to reprogram you vehicle to disable AFM in the program.

A lot of very knowledgeable guys here that can give you first hand experience doing exactly what you are wanting to do.

Good luck.

Can a 6.2 from an’07 or ‘08 be installed in an ‘11 model without too much such difficulty interchanging? Will the computer need to reprogrammed?

Thanks!

The 09 also did not have AFM. The trucks with 6.2 were all Non AFM. They will be able to be installed into your 11 Denali, just need a tune so you don't get check engine lights. RPO L92 or L9H will be what you're looking for. The L92 won't be flex fuel enabled like the L9H and L94(your engine code).

In my 2007, without AFM, I had a lifter fail and scrubbed the cam. Replaced the cam and all the lifters myself. Not sure what your situation is but it sounds like you’re pretty handy with tools so this might be something you could do yourself to save some money.

Welcome to the forum Mac. Well, not sure what all failed without the codes. If you google L9H, this was the ultimate 6.2 and it did not have AFM. This was used in our SUVs in 2009 and in a few 2010s and the Denali pickups used it until 2013. Now having said that, you can delete AFM from the L94 in your wife's truck thereby turning it into an L9H by putting all standard lifters in it, the L9H camshaft and getting a tune to turn off AFM. A BlackBear tune will also make improvements to the transmission making for an even more enjoyable ride.

WHMAC- You have to watch the electronics generational compatibality. An 07 will not mate with an 11' because there was a change. An 09 MAY fit an 11' but I am not sure. An L86 (the 6.0) from the trucks will fit but needs programming.

That's right, didn't they change the computer around 2011? But that can be overcome through tuning, just something that needs paying attention and addressing.
