That hole in the fender isn't a restriction, even with your cam.

Think about it, the 6.2, with ~85hp more than the 5.3, uses the same cut-out in the fender, same airbox and intake tubing.

Something on the intake side is, and cammed I’m making about ~20 hp less than the 6.2 is stock. Just cause the 6.2 uses the same setup doesn’t mean the intake isn’t a restriction there as well.

will it get rid of the restriction entirely? No, but it will help

You picked up 65hp with just a cam? Is it red?

Installed and will go drive it soon. We’ve got a 2k mile round trip starting tonight so hopefully all is well with it. Only things I didn’t like was the threads for the vacuum hose barb were not very clean at all and was hard to start without first cleaning up with a tap. Second the coupler you the air box seems too short (or the tube is a touch too short).

Also they were such a good deal I had to get an intake for my car as well

A 2008 suburban with the 6.2 makes 380, a 2007 Tahoe with the 5.3 makes 310. The cam was said to gain 51 hp.

310 plus 50 gets you 360, which is 20 less than 380. ~300 at the tire on the dyno on a hot day puts it riiiight in the 360 range at the crank. Not sure where you got the 65 figure from

2009+ 6.2l makes 403hp, and a bit more on E85.

That's actually almost 100hp more than the 310hp

.... And still uses same size hole in fender, airbox, and intake tube.

Yeah, its because the 09+ on both engines have VVT. Yes, if you make the intake tube bigger you’ll get higher manifold pressure on both the 5.3 and 6.2 because you increase the VE, same effect as reducing restriction in the same size as stock tube, just not as effective. Just like deleting the cats in stock Y pipe.

I saw nothing except louder sucking noise the year I had one on mine. I have one on my 2001, and have had it on there for like 10 years. I don't mind the noise on that one, it's old and has over 200k miles on it and is noisy inside anyway.... Lol

So making the opening in the fender so it's twice as big as the mass air, tubing, and throttle body increases the engines volumetric efficiency?

An engine only sucks in so much air, no matter how big the intake opening is.
