I was pleasantly surprised by the outcomes of the combined tests. I have used the Amazon Basics full synthetic now for the last 2 oil changes. My oil pressure is rock steady and no engine noises that I would relate to an oil or lifter problem. I order it, it gets delivered right to me for free shipping. These tests prove to me that I can drive with the confidence that the oil is doing what it is supposed to do and holds up as tested.

I just changed my oil

I Used :

Shell Rotella 5w30 5 gal $21.99 Walmart.

K&N filter HP-1017 $12.99 Walmart.

I’ll let you guys know if I feel / notice anything different.

The M1 EP filters have a micron rating of 30 and trap over 99% of particles this size. It's flow rating is 672 GPH. The K&N filters down to 10-12 microns and flows 960 GPH. It took some time to glean this information from multiple sources across the internet.

Yes, it will fit your LY6 too. These motors were designed to run the short filter but will safely run the longer filter which is what GM uses in the V6s and Gen V motors. Notice, the chart above includes only premium filters but for thirty plus years I've used FRAM and Pennzoil without issue in other autos. For this particular truck in our stable, my desire is to run the premium stuff.

wound up getting the shorter one ( HP-1017 ) because I called the company and that is the only one they “recommended”. Next oil change I’ll use the longer one. Appreciate the info Man.

Let me ask since you seem to be the viscosity go to guy. What fluids are you using for your front - Rear diff , transfer case & trans ? Getting ready to do those next.

Went with GM and ACDelco fluids right after I bought the truck. Took to Cadillac and let them do fluid exchange last time for the transmission. This time around I could not locate ACDelco front differential fluid so I used Lucas 80W90 10043 in the front. Yours is spec'd for 75W90 up front, full synthetic. I think we'll run the Lucas 10047 in the rear if I do not have enough left in the garage. The one gallon bottles are all nearly the same price between Lucas, Red-Line and ACDelco, about $50. Running ACDelco Dexron VI full synthetic in the transmission and transfer case. Looking to buy 6 gallon box (10-9167) from RockAuto soon.

What about Amsoil SEVERE GEAR 75W-90 ?

Synthetic, along with OEM filter or higher quality such as mobil1 oil filter. I have a performance boat with 8.1l(425HP) and only use Mobil-1 and there filter and engine is always under load running in the 3-5K RPM range. Nuf said!!! Can't go wrong with full synthetic which is what I'm been using in all my toys for the past 15+ yrs. My Yukon is going mobil-1 once the factory free oil changes are over.

Full synthetic Supertech 10w30 and a K&N HP2011 filter. 235k on my 09 2500 6.0.

5k oil change intervals and I never have more than a couple ounces in my catch can.

Got me even more curious now, James.

1. Where did the 10-12 micron rating come from? Is that nominal? What's the efficiency? I can't find it anywhere.

2. I see on the Mobil1 website, 99% at 30 microns.

3. I know from prior research that the ACDelco pf44 that turned pf46e was a change from 30 down to a 10 micron rating (in an email I found from Delco) yet even their top dog UltraGuard shows 98% at 25-30 microns on their site.

Here's why: Nominal ratings vs actual efficiency.

I can (and do) buy lots of filters for different industrial applications. A filter rated at 10 microns nominal (which is my bet for the K&N, as nominal ratings are pretty common practice) may only be 50% efficient at that resolution. Given the 98&99% efficiency boasted on the Delco and Mobil websites, their nominal ratings may very well be the same or better than the mysterious K&N # (assuming the 10-12 number is nominal). I'm betting all three have almost identical "premium" synthetic blend media.

Would love to see some actual spec sheets.

I'm sure it would be fine, Amsoil and Red-Line use Group IV based oils, they are the best from what I've red, Royal Purple too.

I don't remember Nate, it took many hours of searching and only bits and pieces were gleaned, could very well be they were just advertising the best and they run the same with 30 micron particles. I did and do see a difference in oil pressure and the flow ratings are much more for the K&N. Much more filter media in the K&N cans, seen youtube videos with both cut open.
