Attempting to remove the T-case so I can rule that out if that is my noise I could do the fix myself.

It’s not too hard but you pretty much have to bench press them since a trans jack doesn’t do the job.
For me it Really was that hard. Was not going to lay directly under the T-Case because I was not going to risk an injury. Have no idea how I will get a rebuilt one back in. Removal went nothing like the video I watched and the days of working on a garage floor are over. I spent a lot of time getting the truck up safely to work on. I have many floor jacks all the tools and impacts you would ever need to do the job and I spent more time cleaning up the mess from tranny fluid leaking all over the place than removing the case. The money I saved and the hours I have spent doing this myself hardly seem worth it. Guess its not as easy as I thought it would be.

Is there something wrong with the t case that makes you think it’s the source of your problem? Otherwise what’s the point of rebuilding it? Are you going to put a junkyard trans in? Anyway, I’m 60 and not in any kind of shape and I didn’t have that much problem. They’re about 70 lbs and if you’re on your back under it there’s not much room for it to fall. To install, I kind of drug it up on top of me and put one end up on the crossmember, rested for a sec, then shoved it onto the trans and rotated it a bit until it lined up, slid it onto the dowels and started a bolt. It’s awkward as hell but doable. You might be able to lift it partway with a trans jack but the problem would be transitioning it from the jack to where it needs to go without you being under it. That would be like trying to lift it up from your side which must be how you got it down if you weren’t under it.

I took a chance that its the case. it has to come off either way to get the trans off so lots of decisions and that is why I waited weeks before I decided to remove it. I don't do this kind of work. first transmission I have ever had fail.

Yeah mine was my first automatic trans that I replaced. Mine had 150k and went out soon after I installed a supercharger. Then I spent a lot of money buying one rated for 800 hp and after about a year I raced a Subaru STi off the line, beat him and broke the trans again. It sat all last winter because I have no place inside to work on it. It was rebuilt under warranty. So I got to do mine twice. I’m hoping it lasts this time so I only do rolling full throttle runs now. I’m too old to be installing transmissions in my driveway.
